Hi!
I’m 39+3 and just been to the midwife for my first sweep. I’m booked for an induction at 40+6 due to my GD so she said we may as well try to get things moving.
She said my cervix was already effaced, she could feel babies heads and my sac was present but not bulging yet and I’d done a lot of work already. She’s booked my in for another next week but said she doesn’t think I’ll need it as she thinks it will only be a day or two before my DD is here! Grin

What are other people’s experiences with a sweep? Did they work? How long did it take until you went into labour? Did you do anything in particular afterwards?

Thanks ladies!

Hello!
Hope you're feeling ok.
I had a sweep at 41 wks at about 9am. Nothing seemed to be happening so I sort of gave up on the idea got into my PJs and ate chocloate on the sofa and then contractions came on quite quickly at 9 pm.
DS 2 born at 7am.
It might be different for others. My sister had a sweep and nothing happened so she was later induced.
Maybe get your hospital bag ready, have plenty to eat and a bit of a rest, just in case Grin
Hope it all works out and good luck!

Good luck - my obstetrician said they tend to work in the first 24 hours if your body/baby is ready

@thirdwheeler1 - just as I was reading your reply I was tucking into a chocolate biscuit! Grin

I’m hoping my body is ready as I’ve had a few cramps pains and backache over the past few days! Fingers crossed!!! Just looking forward to meeting her now!

Hi,

I have had a couple of sweeps with both my babies and none of them worked.

My friend had one with her second child and it seemed to work within 12 hours.

Good luck!

I had my first sweep at 40+4 at 2pm and had mild contractions that evening. I went into labour at 2am that night and baby was born at 6pm. After the sweep I went for a really long walk and bought some snacks. I then went out with my DP that evening (walked again) for dinner and I'm so glad I did as it would be our last meal out for a while!! Good luck

I had my 1st sweep at 37+1 at about 2.30pm. Mild contractions started at 9pm. Lasted all night so went into MA at 12pm. Came out at 4.30pm after a 2nd sweep. She said I was 2cm but just too comfortable 🙄 so she sent me home. As soon as I or home, active labour kicked in.

Sweeps are goooood. Drugs are goooood. Whole thing was an amazing experience. So excited for you!
