Do these period cramps ever stop!? Almost 14 weeks

Haven’t had them for a while, have been having occasional round ligament pain when I turn over, sneeze or cough but this is different. The period like pain has returned over the past couple of days though and it’s bugging me. It’s not really strong, I’m not bleeding but it’s enough to make me worry. Feel very heavy and uncomfortable down below. Please tell me this is normal 😫

I'm only 11 weeks so can't comment on how long they will last, but I think quite a lot of my cramps are bowel related! It took me years to realise that a lot of my period pain was actually constipation! I'm putting pains down to either that or uterus growth and trying not to worry.

looking4hope · 03/12/2018 12:02

Iswallowtoothpaste Oh poor you, I know how difficult this anxiety can be. Please don't worry, I was told (numerous times) that cramps / period-like pain are normal because the uterus is growing and stretching. Apparently the only things you should worry about are having severe abdominal and back pain at the same time, or heavy bleeding (continuous, filling at least one pad every 2 hours). So please try to relax, the baby is happily growing and getting comfy in there xx

Iswallowtoothpaste · 03/12/2018 12:31

@looking4hope thank you, they aren’t severe at all, not as strong as period cramps it’s just annoying me that they’re still there.

I also have another scan tomorrow so I think I’m a bit anxious about that too, I’m quite excited at the same time though. How are you now? Hope the bleeding has settled down for you x

Iswallowtoothpaste It's normal to worry about the scan. If the first one was okay I'm sure this one is fine as well. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow xx What time is the scan scheduled for?

The bleeding has settled down a bit, but I keep having LOTS of watery discharge mixed with the blood. It trickled down my leg when I woke up today to go to the loo Sad Scared that it's amniotic fluid, so keeping an eye on things at the moment.

Iswallowtoothpaste · 03/12/2018 13:36

I’m sure it will be, I’m 14 weeks tomorrow so I think I just really need to chill now. The odds are well on my side but it’s so difficult when you’ve had bad news in the scanning room before. I don’t think I’ll ever really get over that anxiety to be honest.

Pleased to hear it’s slowed down a bit. Although can see why you’re worried. If it helps reassure you at all, I’ve had quite a lot of discharge in the last couple of days. Have been changing panty liners very regularly and I also have had a dribble or two. I rang my midwife and she said it’s very unlikely to be amniotic fluid at this stage and more likely just an excess of discharge which does increase in the second tri!

Sorry, scan is at 12:30 so at least it isn’t late in the afternoon. Still have a bit of time in the morning to worry myself half to death though!

That's understandable and I agree that it's hard to get rid of all that anxiety. I'm the same every time I go for a scan. I even have lucky scan clothes now... the crazy things we do. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and sending you lots of hugs xx

Thank you for letting me know about the discharge, it does help. Every little thing is scary right now and I have no-one to ask (I wasn't given a number by my midwife and I can't keep calling the emergency line).

Iswallowtoothpaste · 03/12/2018 16:11

@looking4hope you get into little ‘lucky’ routines and habits, I totally ‘get’ where you’re coming from! Thank you. I’ll update as soon as I get the chance!

For a Central London hospital their system seems shambolic! I can’t believe you haven’t even got a MW’s number to ring if you have any queries. Don’t get me wrong, if it’s anything like bleeding they’ll ask you to get in touch with the EPU or MAU but if it’s just a question about general aches and pains, discharge etc then it’s handy for reassurance.

How was your scan @iswallowtoothpaste?x

Iswallowtoothpaste · 04/12/2018 20:54

@Kayleigh121 scan was great in terms of baby being fine however he/she was laid with their back facing towards us and wasn’t for moving so still haven’t got measurements for the downs, Edwards and Patau screening and I’ll be too late to go back now as I’m bam on 14 weeks today. I have to go back to have a quad test done which is to test for downs.

Also had ketones in my wee 😫 however I hadn’t eaten or drank much thanks to ore scan nerves so that could’ve been why.

@iswallowtoothpaste ah glad baby is doing fine. Oh they definitely didn’t want to play again! Bless you, I had the screening and to be honest I wish I didn’t.. just put extra stress and worry on me But that’s my fault! I’m sure they’ll be able to pick anything up on the 20 week scan if anything is wrong which I hope and doubt there is xxx

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 04/12/2018 21:43

@iswallowtoothpaste I'm still experiencing cramps and random sharp pains and I'm 15+4 today also heard heartbeat today so know everything is ok, midwife have advised it's still settling pains as baby is moving up now but she did say some people have them all the way through !

JustMe18 · 05/12/2018 09:00

I had these pains and used to use a hot water bottle.. I'm 15 weeks, today, and haven't really had any of these pains for a few weeks.. I hope all is ok!
