I have a few boxes of the pregnacare pre conception vitamins and am wondering that now I’m finally pregnant can I continue to take them without any problems?
I can’t find anything to the contrary and I can’t think why not.
My diet is not brilliant though massively improved from what it was so like taking a multivitamin . Would be a bonus if I could carry on with stash I already have and not shell out for new pregnancy vitamins . I also take an additional folic acid.

The main thing to be taking is folic acid so I can't see why the others would be an issue taken alongside!

That being said, the NHS do give pregnancy vitamins out if you ask. I think it's nationwide and not just a certain trust thing but do double check!

Pregnacare conception vitamins already have the recommended level of folic acid don’t they? They’re all you need. And yes fine for when you’re pregnant, I don’t see why not.

Thanks both, I took the additional folic acid as I understood it could assist with conception. After a couple of months on this I fell pregnant but may have been complete coincidence so I kept up with taking it.
I’ve also heard that if you have a high bmi it can help the baby to get more folic acid.
I have so many questions but any midwife I see (so for example at an early pregnancy scan) say they can’t really help with my questions and it’s for my midwife to answer when I get my booking I’m appointment.

I would heck whether they contain vitamin A. High levels of vitamin A are thought to be linked with birth defects. This is the reason the NHS advise against eating liver during pregnancy.

I was told you can't continue to take them because of the vitamin A in them. You need vitamin A when trying to conceive but when pregnant, it's not good.

Folic acid is to reduce the chances of the baby having spina bifida. There is nothing to suggest it helps with conception but yes to you need to take it when you are ttc.

If your bmi puts you in the obese category then you need to take 4mg of folic acid a day. Your GP can perscribe it if needed.

Just checked ingredients and doesn’t appear to be any vitamin a in them unless vitamin a comes under a different name?

I’m pretty sure you can.

They’re not going to make pre conception vitamins that are not suitable for pregnant ladies surely.

Yes I did, I checked and they had the exact same amount of folic acid as the pregnancy ones so I carried on taking them until I ran out and switched to pregnancy vitamins

I would check the vitamin D in them too. I took seven seas conception tablets but swapped when I conceived as the vit D was below recommended levels.

My midwife said to carry on with them, they are pretty much the exact same thing. X
