Keytones at 39 weeks

Hi, looking for advice and hopefully reassurance! I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and just got my urine results back - keytones 5.0 mg/DL. Glucose, protein etc all 0. Keytones always 0 in previous tests. Test was done first thing in the morning before eating or drinking - could it be that?

Obviously I will run it past my doctor but I can't speak to him until tomorrow afternoon.

At 30 weeks i had a midwife appointment where she told me my urine tested as 2+ ketones (using the coloured dip stick). This was the first time for that result, and like you i have no other issues.
She told me that it was most likely because the urine sample was the first one of the day, and i had not eaten beforehand, and she did not seem to be at all concerned.

I had this yesterday at my 25wk appointment tested at +1 my appointment was in the afternoon and I knew I hadn't drunk enough at work as the sample I took in was quite dark, I told my midwife this, so she wasn't worried and told me to drink more!!

Ok thanks I feel a bit better now! I seem to do nothing but drink and eat at the moment but being the first urine of the morning it would been 8 hours or so after eating or drinking. Surely if it was diabetes related there would be glucose too.

My midwife specifically told me not to bring the first urine of the day as my sample and to collect mid stream, presumably because of this very issue. If there’s no protein or glucose I wouldn’t worry!

Thanks MonkeyToucher, wish mine had told me that!
