Beta hCG - is it too low? Really panicking...

I’m currently 3 weeks 5 days pregnant, so very early, and according to IVF dates (official test day is Friday.. I know, fool to myself). I got blood drawn today for beta hCG - my levels are 19.2 IU/L. Why do I have a feeling this is a really low result and I should prepare myself for loss? I have had slightly bleeding since last night, red but watery.

Who offered you the blood test? I'm surprised it's been done so early on.

The GP/clinic who administered the blood test and gave you the results - what did they say about the results?

Gryffindork · 28/11/2018 13:43

I got it done at the private hospital, because of the bleeding and for a few different reasons.

Nothing has been said about the results - I got them via receptionist and I haven’t been able to get through to anyone with a medical degree since.

Hey, congrats on your bfp. I’m sure you have been waiting a long time for it! That is very early to get bloods, most people in your position would only have a pregnant or not indication from a hpt at this stage. My understanding is that anything over 5 is pregnant with beta and as long as your numbers double over every 48 hours, it doesn’t matter if they seem low. Are they having you back to check this?

Gryffindork · 28/11/2018 19:57

Thank you for replying windy2909 - they’re having me back Friday. I had them done this morn at 10:30am and I’ve got an appointment at 12pm with them on Friday so I’ll be able to see if they’ve doubled in the 48hr time frame.

Thank you! I have, four years to be exact. It seems too good to be true and it seems like it could be now! The bleeding isn’t heavy and it’s intermittent but it’s a watery red/pink, so I can’t see that being a good sign. I don’t have any pain though apart from a bit more of a backache but I know miscarriages can sneak up on you quite quickly.

Thank you again for your reply Smile

That is a long wait! I really hope you get good results on Friday and that you have a very happy, healthy, but boring pregnancy. Please let me know how you get on.

I’m annoyed for you, that the clinic gave you those results without any thoughts or explanations on how they are looking! Did anyone get back to you about them?

I am also early stages of an IVF pregnancy, so understand some of what you’ve been through to get where you are! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞.

Thank you, me too!
Four years but the last 6 weeks from when I started the buserelin til now has felt longer than the four years I’ve already waited. And now til the viability scan at 7 weeks is going to feel like 3 decades, not 3 weeks! Waiting I can do, it’s the not knowing I can’t.

No I haven’t got through to anyone yet, but I’ve left a message and will try again tomorrow. I may as well just bloody wait til my appointment on Friday 🙄
I haven’t had anymore bleeding but I’m so worried I will! With the bleeding last night and this morn, and the low beta, I’m worried it’s not viable. What I can’t understand is my positive test this morn is quite a lot darker than yesterday’s. I’ve tested every morning (I’m a fool to myself!) and I’ve had faints for two mornings, a clearer one yesterday with a CB digital saying “positive 1-2 yesterday” and a really clear one today’s that’s dark but not dark dark. I just can’t work out what’s going on, especially to have a beta hCG of 19.2 but get a positive on a digital yesterday!

Congratulations on your pregnancy too - IVF is hard isn’t it?! I really hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months... I’ll keep you updated! Thank you x

@griffyndork - it is tough - such a rollercoaster of emotions.

How are you doing? Hope you’re hanging on in there....it’s almost tomorrow and you will get a better idea of how things are going. I really hope you get good news tomorrow x

Gryffindork · 29/11/2018 17:31

It is. It’s awful! I knew it would be and I’ve handled it well up until now. Pregnancy hormones I think!

I’m doing well, have come to visit my Nan today and she’s kept me occupied but I’ve rested too. No bleeding today and this morning I did a First Reponse and a CB Digital and the First Reponse is still clearly positive (like was same colour/darkness as yesterday, not sure if that’s a bad sign or not...) but the CB was still positive, and said “pregnant, 1-2” so I hope that it’s still going the right way. I’ve had the odd pain, or more like a twinge that goes as soon as it comes and the odd cramp that’s barely noticeable and goes as soon as it comes so I fingers crossed that things are still good! I’m hoping the blood test was wrong 😂
Tomorrow is nearly here thank god.

How are you holding up? How have you found things since getting your BFP? Are you on cyclogest? X

That all sounds really positive! Remember it is much more common to have some spotting/bleeding early on with an IVF pregnancy, I’m glad you’ve had no more though as it’s so stressul!

I’m doing well, thanks. I was able to breath a huge sigh of relief as I had my viability scan today and baby is going well in there 😍. It was so nice to see and had made me start to believe that this is actually happening!

Best of luck for tomorrow. I look forward to hearing good news 🤞🤞🤞🤞 x
