Consultants appointment for BMI. What to expect?

Hi,

I have my first 12 week scan next week. (Very nervous after a previous loss) I'm understand what happens at the scan but after it I have an appointment with the consultant. This is due to my BMI. Can anyone tell me what to expect? What will they do or ask me?

Thanks!

Also as my DH will be there with me. Do I need to take him into this part? Or do I go in alone? Does it matter?

Yes, take your DH with you, you’ll be absolutely fine. I had mine a week ago and they were lovely. A nurse came in and weighed me, took my blood pressure and then I gave her a urine sample. The consultant followed slightly after and asked lots of questions about my pregnancy history (like you I have a history of M/C including MMC which made me a trembling wreck at this scan!) they also asked me questions about my pregnancy with DD and birth. They’d like me to come for extra scans at 28 & 36 weeks (yay!) and to attend a healthy lifestyle class (not so yay). They also ask about any meds you’re taking, vitamins etc and family history (diabetes, heart disease etc)

Yours will no doubt be similar to mine. You’ll be so elated after your scan that I suspect you won’t be too bothered if some dipshit makes a bit of an off hand comment.

My midwife referred me at booking in for high BMI and family history but I've heard nothing - no appointments have come through or anything.
Had my 12 weeks scan last week and all is fine. Next appointment I am aware of is 16 weeks with midwife on 10th December. Should I follow up before then or just assume all is fine if they haven't sent an appointment?

@lifechanginglemoncake I’d follow it up if I were you, perhaps you could ring your MW and explain and she’ll either advise you on what to do or set the ball rolling herself.

They don’t do anything crucial when you meet them, it’s just trying to get an idea of your history and get some sort of plan in place for scans, check ups and things to look out for etc.
