Growth scan

Hello, I am 31weeks today. I had a growth today and they said the baby Is 4lb 3oz already. That's big for 31 weeks. Does this mean I will be having a big baby or not really ?

Can they be accurate ?

They’re notoriously inaccurate. I had 4 growth scans. At 35 weeks they said he was 8lb3oz. Everyone freaked out and I was booked for a c section because by 40 weeks he would be almost 12lbs. Had another scan and they decided perhaps he wasn’t so huge so I could be induced. He was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb3oz.

Are you seeing a consultant? Do you have any more growth scans?

My growth scans estimated an 8.5lb baby.. he was born 6lb4 3 weeks ago and none of our newborn clothed fitted him! I had 4 growth scans too and they all estimated him larger than he was in the end.

Agree with them being inaccurate. My growth scan at 36 weeks predicted 8lb 3oz so I was preparing for a big baby. Baby born by emergency c section at 38 weeks weighing 6lb 9oz. Midwife said they may have predicted it wrong due to my baby being very long- the thigh bone measurement would have been big so may have raised the overall estimate?

I'm nearly 32 weeks and was told my LO is currently around 4lb which is normal?! I've also heard like other PPs have said that they're so unreliable I'm not stressing too much. He'll make his way into this world when he's ready.

I have 2 kids hun and had growth scans with both of them because I was born with a heart murmur and I weight 2.2 and both of my kids are fine I have to have growth scans with the one I pregnant with now I am 9 weeks and 2 days there nothing to worry about everything will turn out ok positive thoughts. Xxx

I don't have any more growth scan I was out in for this scan due to being in a car accident and they wanted to check the baby over and do checks on the growth. But I am a little scared of having a big baby.

I was told my baby would be 8lb at my first growth scan, I then had a second growth scan when I was 39 weeks and was told the baby would be 7lb 3oz the next day I gave birth and he weighed 6lb 3oz so not accurate at all. Try not to worry.x

They often get it wrong I was repeatedly called in for growth scans as the baby was ‘very small’ I then gave birth to a 7lb1oz baby

So ladies I went to my 35 weeks appointment with the midwife. And now they are telling me my bump hasn't grown since the growth scan and I need to have another scan as she may not be growing. Is this normal one minute she's big and the next my bump isn't growing ?

Yep, totally normal. As long as she is growing normally on the scan she’s fine.

The actual measurements they take during the scan are accurate (and should be increasing), it’s only the weight they calculate from those measurements that can be wildly off (they thought DS was 8lb and he was actually 6lb with an enormous head, but his head circumference and length were exactly what they had said they would be).

I still haven't received my appointment for my growth scan and I am getting worried. Should I be ? Or are they not really that worried that they are not rushing the growth scan through ?x

It’s been New Year! The appointments office will have been shut. It will probably have been posted out today. If you haven’t heard by the end of the week, phone them.

They are a joke. Ignore the scan IME

I rang them they lost my slip for a request. So my midwife has had to put in another request and now I have to wait till Sunday for a scan. This is a joke if there was something wrong it's been a long time xxxx
