Baby 4lbs6 at 32 weeks too small?

I’m currently 32 weeks and 2 days pregnant, and have been having growth scans since the beginning.

Up until now baby has been measuring a little on the big side which I was never told till yesterday!(although within normal range still) yet at yesterday’s scan they said he was suddenly a little small and wanted to monitor it no make sure it didn’t fall below the normal range.

I was told he’s around 4lbs 6, and from everything I’ve read that seems to be normal, if not still big?Confused so I’m confused to as why they’ve told me he’s now small.

I was just wondering if anyone else knows what their baby was weighing at this point in pregnancy, and/or how it all turned out
Thanks in advance! Smile

I had this with my last, monitoring everyday and scan etc! It turned out to be lack of water.. even up until birth everything was high risk and ready for small baby.. she came out after an induction at 38+5 at a healthy 6lb 5oz
To me that sounds a good weight at 32 weeks! Try not to let them worry u too much.. they air on the side of caution I guess

At 32 weeks i was measuring at 3 pounds nine and he was fiftieth centile, I had a scan yesterday 36+5 and he's now 6,11 😲 60th centile.
Four pounds six at 32 weeks doesn't sound small to me. Have you looked at the graphs with your scan results?

I gave birth to my daughter at 32 weeks and she weighed 4.1lbs - all the nurses were saying what a good weight for 32 weeks and had expected her to be smaller!

My friend gave birth at 32 weeks to a 4lbs 2oz baby and was told the baby was a really good weight for the gestation.
Maybe they mean that growth has tailed off?

Just been looking at my graphs and there’s a comment on there saying baby is 0.82 below 50th centile? It’s all so confusing to me! By the looks my midwife has been marking him on the graph as big, then the hospital just below the middle line.

I had one dd born at 31 weeks weighing 3lb 11oz and one at 30 weeks weighing 3lb, I was told that they were really good weights for their gestation, so I’d take it with a pinch of salt. Most of the baby books and sites give an average size of babies at different hesitations, and yours seems to be above imo, I’ve added a pic to show just one (obviously, take advice of your health cate professionals over any internet post, but just for reference)
I don’t think they are ever really accurate tbh, my first dd I was told was going to be really small, had growth scans and bought preemie sizes and she was born full term at 8lb 6!

I was induced at 36 weeks, as I’d been having regular monitoring scans, and growth of dc3 had slowed. So whilst they’re monitoring estimated weight, they’re also measuring rate of growth which should plot at a regular increase. If growth slows it can indicate a problem.

4lb 6oz is a good weight for 32 weeks, however if you have been measuring big and there has been a slowing of your baby's growth, that might be their concern.

As long as they continue to monitor him and he grows at a normal rate he will be fine.

HopeGarden · 27/11/2018 10:05

In my last pregnancy I was told that the growth scans in pregnancy were more individual now - so I guess a gestational weight of 4lb 6oz at 32 weeks may be considered small for some women but average for others.

That weight sounds fine but be glad they are keeping a close eye on you, especially if growth is slowing as it can indicate underlying issues.
My son was born at 33 weeks weighing 2lb 14oz and is absolutely fine now
