AIBU to be annoyed at how genderist even baby clothing is?

We are over the moon to be expecting our fist child, a little girl, in April :) Complicit the Black Friday sales, I have been doing a bit of online shopping over the weekend. I am amazed by how many websites still have baby (infant!) clothing divided into "boys" and "girls" categories, which I honestly find ridiculous. Why should a Peter Rabbit babygro be for boys only? Or a space babygro? There are a few "gender neutral" shops out there (Mori makes good stuff) but they are so expensive. To be clear, I am not ostracising the odd pink top or cute shirt, but I am keen on raising my little girl without many stereotypes and I am seeing that so much of girl stuff is still so twee and frilly and has terrible slogans on it.

I got a Facebook notification to say that one of my FB friends (had 1 DS and pregnant again) had put something for sale on the Marketplace.

She was selling a jungle themed baby bouncer- v inoffensive. On the ad she’d put
“Nearly new baby bouncer- barely used. Selling now as am expecting a girl.”

She went on to do the same thing for a load of other perfectly nice and fairly new baby stuff, because it was “boyish” or just plain white and she wanted to replace it with pink.

Each to their own, but why someone would put themselves to such unnecessary expense especially when like my friend they aren’t rolling in spare cash.

How can you have different prams for boys and girls? Have I missed something?

I think it's because some colours aren't deemed suitable for boys/girls? If you put a little boy/girl in the "wrong" pram then he/she might get mistaken for the opposite sex, which obviously would be totally offensive to the baby... Shock Wink

jungle themed baby bouncer - well jungles are CLEARLY no place for girls!
Seriously though. Angry

My SIL bought a pink version of the vtech walker in the vain hope the sounds were different... She was disappointed.

It is sad that marketing is so successful

I find pink prams tacky. My favourite colour is purple but I couldn't bring myself to get a purple pram (even if iCandy had a tasteful dark shade), especially after knowing that I am expecting a girl.

My pram has a purple hood, I don’t have a girl.

It was when I started seeing people get different prams for boys and girls that I started to realise how much we are being taken for a ride!

Maybe we should all change our cars when we have a new baby. Just in case someone thinks our baby is the wrong sex because the car is the wrong colour.

It is crazy!
