Pregnancy of unknown location

Hi guys,

I had a miscarriage last year. So after getting my bfp I decided to get an early scan today as I had some spotting and pink blood when I wiped. I should be 5wks5days according to my dates. Had a transvaginal scan today they said the lining of my womb was thick but could not find a pregnancy. After looking at my dates they have said it could just be too early to see as lately my cycles have been 34 days. Would this affect seeing nothing whatsoever on a scan? Just looking for some support and advice really. She seemed optimistic that it could just be too early but I'm feeling a bit deflated and just kind of waiting for the worst now. Anyone have any similar experiences good or bad?

TIA

Sorry to hear that Flowers. You might think about getting this moved to another topic, maybe one in “Becoming a parent”.

Report your own thread and ask HQ to move it for you, you’ll get better support/advice there.

Op, I am going to report your message and get it moved to a better topic as you might not get many responses in style and beauty.

At 5 weeks 5 days you would expect to see something in the uterus, but it will depend on when you ovulated. If you ovulated later than day 14 you might not see anything yet, particularly if you might have ovulated after about CD24 which if you have longer cycles is a possibility.

Was the scan NHS? What have they proposed for next steps?

Thank you, can't work out how to report it. Thought I put this in pregnancy. She seemed optimistic that it could have just been too early I know I ovulated around 4th November so cycle day 21 as I used opks. The scan was private she said I could go to an epu but wasn't majorly concerned by what they saw so said I could go whenever just so I can get my bloods tested to give a better indication as to whether my levels are going up.

OP please call your GP / EPU, they will want to monitor (bloods) a pregnancy of unknown location in case its eptopic,

We're going to move this thread over to Pregnancy for you now, OP Flowers

@EssexMummy123456 I have a gp appointment for Monday. Have no EPU's open over the weekend. I'm not in any pain so taking that as a positive.

Don’t panic - it may well just be too early to see anything, especially if your cycles are longer than average. A 34 day cycle would put ovulation at around day 20 so if your dates are from your last period they could be wrong - that would make you around 4+6 at which stage you wouldn’t see expect to see anything on scan.

You need follow up just to be sure it’s not an ectopic so I would suggest speaking to your GP surgery Monday morning to arrange a referral to your local Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU). They may want to do blood tests to see what your hormone levels are doing or if you are not having any pain or bleeding they may just rescan you in about a week.

Fingers crossed for you OP - plenty of reason to be hopeful for a good outcome here.

Darkstar4855 · 24/11/2018 14:09

Sorry cross post. GP should be able to refer you to EPU on Monday.

London91 · 24/11/2018 14:20

Brilliant, I'll go to my gp and go from there. The only thing that makes me optimistic is the sonographer didn't seem too concerned. So fingers crossed it is just my stupid long cycles. 😊

When I've had early scans they've said not to come til I was roughly 7 weeks so they could be sure to see something. Best of luck OP. Hope it all works out for you. If you do feel pain though I would head to your closest a&e as it could be ectopic
