Is anyone awake? I’m having contractions!

Is anyone awake and willing to keep me company? I’ve been having contractions since last night but since half 2 they’re really starting to bite. Dh is sleeping with our little boy so I could get some sleep but I’ve been awake for ages now! They’re every 8 minutes currently. Hoping I can wait until it’s properly morning to ring in.

Oooh exciting ! Might be an idea to text your DH and whoever is coming to look after your little one !

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 05:28

I’ve text Dh and he’s helpfully left his phone in here!!! He’s snoring away blissfully unaware next door. However I’ve text my mom whos only ten minutes away when she needs to get here. Wondering whether I should have a shower? Can’t believe I’m worrying about bed head! Not sure when to ring
Hospital. They’re sometimes up to ten mins apart but this happened last time when my waters broke - then it happened so fast!!

Probably worth getting things in place to go to hospital. Wake your DH and tell him; alert whoever will be looking after your son etc. I guess you are already timing your contractions?

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 05:30

The bags are all packed, I’ve got everything ready except myself!! I feel an absolute mess. My hair is all over the place from tossing and turning! Do I ring triage now? My contractions are every 8-10 minutes and don’t last longer than about 30 seconds, but they were exactly the same last time. I had a sweep yesterday and was 3cm and waters were bulging.

If it happened fast last time I'd get ready as in my experience 2nd is faster! Keep timing gaps and get someone to come and have your Ds for today! Very excited for you. Do you know what you are having?

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 24/11/2018 05:32

Have a shower if it feels right - and while you are up gently wake DH and make him aware of the situation . Give him a few mins to come to properly before you tell him quite how close you are !!

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 05:37

Just been to the loo and got stuck in there!!! Have warned Dh but leaving him in bed with our son so he doesn’t wake yet. Going to give it till 6 if I can, then ring the hospital.

How exciting!

I gave birth to my baby girl 3 weeks ago yesterday!

It's worth phoning your hospital to let them know that labour has started but most (UK) won't admit you until you're having 3 contractions in 10 mins for FTM or 2 in 10 mins thereafter. It's worth letting them know that first time round, your labour was quick - that might change things!

Hope you're ok - stay positive! You're about to meet your baby!! 😊😊

MyOtherProfile · 24/11/2018 05:41

How exiting. Is your mum on her way?

MyOtherProfile · 24/11/2018 05:41

Exciting rather than exiting obvs Grin

littlecabbage · 24/11/2018 05:41

Oooh, how exciting! Good luck xx

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 05:41

Awww, congratulations!!! Yeah I had that problem last time. I was having contractions every 10 mins and they told me to stay at home and have a bath Blush then my waters broke and I had back to back contractions and my baby boy arrived 3 hours after we screeched to a halt on the car park! No one believed me because I was a ftm either Blush when I said I needed to push!

I'm nervous for you... I hope your mum is on her way and dh is getting dressed. I would be getting ready to leave any minute. My contractions suddenly sped up and we had to go in a hurry.

SpeckledyHen · 24/11/2018 05:43

I would ring the hospital now if it was me . Congratulations in advance !

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 05:45

Now I’ve sat up in bed, they feel less painful! Not sure if I’m being hasty in ringing. And I keep doubting myself. What if they’re not really contractions etc! Nervous this time as I’m on a delivery suite rather than midwifery birthing unit due to being higher risk (everything is fine though) and they can often be a little dismissive and patronising when I’ve phoned previously!

pregle · 24/11/2018 05:51

Very exciting! I would still call, 2nd time really does seem to be quicker, sure what's the worst they can say, stay out and call again! Will your mum have seen your text?

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 05:53

I’ll call now Smile hopefully it’s a nice midwife!!

Yes my mom is awake already so she could be here in ten minutes if I needed her to be xx

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 06:11

I’ve phoned and they’re going to expect me at some point. I’ve given them all my details and they know to expect me which is nice! Now I’m worried I’m imagining things Blush

How are you getting on? Are they still coming?

SandysMam · 24/11/2018 06:15

Did you wash your hair??? Get it done as could be a few days before you can do it again, also might be a good distraction plus being upright might get things moving. How exciting OP, wishing you all the best.

olderthanyouthink · 24/11/2018 06:19

Good luck Smile

I had my little girl last Friday, long story but apparently I had a fast labour and I had her at home in the bath, on my own, no painkillers. All fine and healthy thankfully.

Been told I should have a planned Home birth next time Hmm

Have a shower, sort your hair in a way that it will be ok being neglected for a while and eat something.

CelebratingMyOwnSelf · 24/11/2018 06:34

Good luck op, Exciting times.

JellycatElfie · 24/11/2018 06:47

Sorry, I had my little boy in bed with me for cuddles! Yes they’re still coming on but no set pattern - sometimes 7 mins sometimes 15 mins and in between I am so ok I feel like a fraud! Until they come on and I really wince. Just shouted at dh for letting the dog touch me Blush I am hoping for a quick discharge - I am high risk due to several episodes reduced movement but they have agreed I don’t have to stay in as long as all goes ok. Waiting for my next contraction before I hop in the shower!!! Is this normal to feel so ok between contractions?
