Can I take allergy tablets whilst pregnant?!

My mum's just bought two cats, I am allergic but need to go to her house this weekend. It's surprising how fast my allergies flair up without a tablet prior. Is it safe or not? Conflicting information online. (14 weeks) Don't want to take the risk if it isn't obviously. Thanks

Loratidine and cetirizine are considered ok in pregnancy especially if you will only be using them for a short period of time

I was also prescribed Piriton while pregnant :) As well as loratadine in a different pregnancy

I had to take antihistamines through all three of my pregnancies due to hay fever and having more allergic reactions than normal. Also had steroid tablets as asthma got worse. All babies fine!

I was told by pharmacist and midwife not to take during any stage of pregnancy.

Midwife said if I was really struggling I could make an appointment with the doctor and see what they recommend, but basically they are not tested on pregnant woman so best that avoid if you can.

Thank you everyone. Think I will try and avoid this weekend and book in at Drs for a prescription going forward because although not all the time it is going to come up again before I give birth Smile

P.s. you can buy loratidine and cetirizine off the shelf in the supermarket so no need for a prescription
