Sciatica remedies?

Hi all,

I'm 24+5 with my first baby. I've had sciatica mildly since about 20 weeks, but it's really kicked up a notch in the past in the past week or so.

Paracetmol makes no difference. Hot water bottles help, but it's not really feasible to take one to work and that's when I really suffer.

I've got an 11 hour shift tomorrow and I'm dreading it Sad

Hiya! Long term sufferer here... best remedies for sciatica I have are hot water bottles (which I took to work) tennis balls and pregnancy massage.

Get a tennis ball and with it against your bum go against the wall and apply pressure. It will be painful to start with the nerve will release a bit. Rotate around to hit all the spots. Alternatively, if your partner can apply similar pressure to your posterior.

If you have spare pennies I really recommend pregnancy massage... it is more expensive because they have to have special training but after 2 terrible pregnancies with SPD and sciatica which left me on crutches and in a wheel chair - I’ve started having them with this pregnancy and what a massive difference. It was painful on the sciatic area but the relief is immeasurable.

Hope that helps a bit x

You can also get stronger pain meds but I didn’t want to take these because of the baby. Personal choice tho - see a doctor and see what you could get x

Deep tissue massage helped me so much.

Massage ball with spikes on. It's like the size of a tennis ball and it really does help. Better if you get other half to do it for you.

Warm baths help me and a gel pad that goes in the microwave too, it seems to sit better on my hip than a hot water bottle.
