Don't worry. Yeah, it's not great but the risk is minimal. And it's done now. Just watch your vit A consumption for the next few days.

VictoriaBun · 21/11/2018 19:22

I made Flapjacks so I could eat them all

dementedpixie · 21/11/2018 19:26

Pate isn't good from a Listeria point of view and also vitamin A. I'd avoid from now on

RiskIt4Biscuit · 21/11/2018 21:01

You don't have to worry.

Maybe you shouldn't eat a load more pate any time soon, but it shouldn't be an issue.
It's more pure liver (such as in a dish like liver and onion, where you'd eat far more as well) and stuff like cod liver oil that's a problem.

Pate is around 30-35% liver, so if you've had a pack of 175-200g, you'll be fine.

I think it's mainly in the UK that they recommend not eating pate and similar - in many other places of the world, such as Denmark, it's completely fine to eat pate, and pate is very commonly eaten for lunch there.

Thanks ladies. Do you think i need to mention it to my dr? Phone the midwives straight away? Or just leave it

Just leave it I would say. Hard to let the anxiety not win but it really should be fine.

DeRigueurMortis · 22/11/2018 00:08

Mention it, if only to reassure yourself.

As a pp said, pâte isn't "off" the menu in many other countries during pregnancy.

I love it and ate it (in moderation) duration my pregnancy along with the odd small glass of red wine every month.

I think a lot of the deprivation in pregnancy is about "I would blame myself if..." and if you're smoking and drinking half a bottle of wine a night then you bloody well should.

On the other hand my personal perspective is the risks associated with products like unpasteurised cheese, pate and very small amounts of alcohol consumed in moderation are tiny. That said each to their own and for some women they would prefer to eliminate any produce perceived as having a risk during pregnancy.

I had mackerel pâté the other day, it was amazing. You’ll be fine, just leave it a while before you have much more.

The doctor and midwife won't be able change anything so just mention in your next appointment x

ThatOneHurt · 22/11/2018 09:08

Honestly if I really wanted patè I would eat it.

iforgotwhatiwasgoingtosay · 22/11/2018 10:14

As long as you limit it and don't have it often if you really fancy it there shouldn't be a problem, just make sure its completely fresh, not pate that's been open in your fridge for a week. I had some on some brown toast a couple of weeks ago, I just couldn't stop myself.

BertieBotts · 22/11/2018 10:20

It's fine. Don't think any more about it. Paté is advised against due to the Vitamin A content, but the vit A recommendation was (apparently) based on some women who hugely craved liver and ate massive amounts of it and then it caused issues for their babies. A small packet of paté is unlikely to be a problem.
