I work in a hospital, going to flu clinic today, do I need to tell them I'm pregnant? I'm only 5 weeks and don't want too many people at my workplace to find out

Ask a pharmacist.

BinglyBunglyBoops · 21/11/2018 12:54

We had to fill a form out first so it may we ask you then. It’s not like they can tell anyone it’s confidential.

It's just one of the nurses on the unit I work for doing it for me so not sure if she'll get me to do form.. thanks for advice

I would. You can have flu jab when you are pregnant but I think there is a different jag. I could be wrong. Anyway the NHS does recommend the flu jab for all pregnant women.

moleeye · 21/11/2018 12:59

Check with your midwife but they recommend getting the flu jab whilst pregnant.

I had my flu jab when I was 13 weeks pregnant, am now 22

newrubylane · 21/11/2018 13:04

When I had mine the nurse who did it asked me why I was having to beforehand, but it wasn't like I had to announce it...

lstef · 21/11/2018 13:05

Yes say you're pregnant I think it's a different jab.

MamaIn2019 · 21/11/2018 13:10

I'm not meeting with my midwife until I'm 9/10 weeks. I get the flu every year and don't want to wait that long to get the jab. Ah panic!!

Yep you should tell her. This year there are apparently 3 different jabs which are suitable for different patient groups, so they need to know which one to give you.

JollyGiraffe · 21/11/2018 13:11

Yes, tell her. It will be one of the questions she asks you before giving it anyway!

SuperVeggie · 21/11/2018 13:11

If you say 'please keep this confidential but I am pregnant' then as a health practitioner she cannot tell anyone and if she does she would risk losing her job for breaking patient confidentiality. So she shouldn't be able to gossip round your work!

MadeForThis · 21/11/2018 13:32

Tell them. But the flu jab is routine for pregnant women. Same as whooping cough

Bees1 · 21/11/2018 14:21

My reply is too late I’m sure but I also work for the NHS and was 15 weeks when I had my jab so did mention it and she said the one they are giving to NHS workers this year is the one recommended for preganant ladies anyway so all fine.

Darkstar4855 · 21/11/2018 18:46

It’s a standard jab. You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to, just keep a note of the date so you can let your midwife know you’ve had it when you book.

hoping2018 · 22/11/2018 07:48

Too late now I assume but for others who may read - same jan and you don't need to tell them!

hoping2018 · 22/11/2018 07:48

Jab not jan*
