Late Scan?

Haze0215 · 19/11/2018 09:53

All my scans were on time with my son.
I'm 11 weeks today and I don't have my first scan until Christmas Eve which is when I'll be 16. Is that ok? Can I still have the Downs syndrome screening that late?
Not sure whether to ring up the hospital or contact my midwife! Tia x

That seems really late, in England? Mine is tomorrow when I'll be 13 weeks but I figured it was just that they were busy. I'd ring them, they might have got dates wrong etc.

I think there’s a cutoff period for downs testing that might be too late not 100% sure I’d be very cross if they didn’t scan me until 16 weeks is defiantly complain x

The cut off for the Down’s syndrome screening is 14 weeks. Give them a call.

Cleojinx · 19/11/2018 12:51

Agree with PP's if you want the screening the scan needs to be before 14 weeks. That seems awfully late!

I was nearly 16 weeks when I had my 12 week scan..Midwives just made up my dates because I was unsure of dates.
I couldn't have the combined test but could of had a blood test but it didn't test for all of the conditions. I would give them a call if you want the tests.

TheSubtleKnifeAndFork · 19/11/2018 13:35

I'd be questioning this.

16 weeks might be fine if you don't want the combined screening, but if you do then you definitely need to be seen sooner. You can have the quadruple test later than the cut off for the combined, but I'm not sure how late and I don't think it's as accurate as the combined test and it only screens for risk of DS not the other trisomies.

overagain · 19/11/2018 13:51

If you want the combined screening for downs you need to call them as 16 weeks is to late.

If they can't move it you could either just have the quad blood test (not as accurate) or pay privately for the NIPT test.

Thank you everyone! Just contacted my midwife and she's concerned why they've made my appointment so late. She's contacting the hospital and chasing up the reason why!xx

Good news OP, hope you can get it moved!

Babyno2mamabear · 19/11/2018 18:11

It's too late for the screening of Downs, Edwards and Pateau (sp) BUT you can still have a blood test after 14 weeks for Downs it's called the quad test and what I had to have as baby didn't cooperate and 12 week scan. That said you definitely need an earlier one I would have thought. Glad your midwife is chasing it xx
