Hi!

I wondered if you all wanted to share your stretch mark tips!

How to prevent (as many as you can)

Any good oils?
Just all round tips :)

Thanks :)

I'm still in my first trimester so I haven't got tried and testing tips but my plan is to used bio oil after my evening shower and cocoa butter after my morning shower. Bio oil makes me too slippery for work!

Birdie6 · 18/11/2018 11:27

You can't prevent them - sorry ! You can use every oil under the sun, but if your skin is prone to getting them, you'll get them. People will tell you that Bio Oil works, or something else works, but it only works for them because they weren't going to get them anyway.

userabcname · 18/11/2018 11:31

Stretch marks are to do with skin type and genetics - I used loads of creams, lotions and potions and have so many stretch marks all over my torso! They do fade though, if you do get them. Try not to worry about them as there's not much you can do. Congratulations!

GimbleInTheWabe · 18/11/2018 11:38

What @KatnissK said!

I'm 1 year PP and got so many horrible red stretch marks on my stomach in my last trimester. Thought they'd be that way forever. They've faded a lot and I actually really couldn't give a hoot about them either (which I never thought I'd say!). In all honesty I don't have time to worry about them Grin

GimbleInTheWabe · 18/11/2018 11:38

Oh and I uses every type of cream, band, lotion and potion around!

qwertt12 · 18/11/2018 11:47

Fab!! Thanks Guys

My mum doesn't have them and I don't at the moment but let's just wait and see!! Fingers crossed if not I am sure I'll love them 🤔

Still going to coat myself with moisturiser haha

If your mother didn't get any, you might be lucky since there is a genetic element to them. Good luck !

qwertt12 · 18/11/2018 12:40

Thank you!! So exited, it's the least of our worries I suppose haha xx

When did you first start noticing stretch marks??

Hiphopopotamous · 18/11/2018 13:31

I didn't get any in my first pregnancy but I did cover myself in thick body butter and bio oil twice daily and didn't put on much weight- wonder if it helped or if I have good genes.

SlimGin · 18/11/2018 15:38

Even though the oil/cream doesn't work I found it helpful to rub lotion in when my belly was itchy from stretching. I used Palmers cocoa butter. I have no stretch marks on my belly but lots on my boobs. I'll use bio oil when I start weaning as no point when they're still inflating every day!

1Wanda1 · 18/11/2018 16:49

My mum doesn't have any stretch marks and I got quite a lot in the last 4 weeks of both my previous pregnancies. They do fade though.

No oil or cream will prevent stretch marks. The stretching happens at a deeper level of the skin than any topical treatment can reach. If you're going to get them, you'll get them.

KittyMcTitty · 18/11/2018 17:37

No oil or moisturiser stops stretch marks!

I covered myself in bio oil - got them at 22 weeks - hideous! Save your money! - just genes! Keeping weight loss down helps and moisturising helps your skin feel nice.

Sadly if you are going to get them you will! But they do fade . . . Eventually!!!

Becky122 · 18/11/2018 17:50

I'm nearly 40 weeks and none yet but have heard they can show up even once you have given birth. I have used babyoil on wet skin after every shower and have also used the cheap version of bio oil I bought in Asda. And occasionally body butter. But like everyone says think some people are just prone to them.

hayley013 · 18/11/2018 18:21

I've also heard nothing can prevent them, though I second pp in that I use bio oil just to help with the itching that stretching causes, plus I find my skin to be a bit drier generally so it's nice to have it moisturised x

StargazyDrifter · 18/11/2018 22:13

I'm in my first trimester and this has been v helpful. TokenGinger the bit about being 'too slippery for work' really did make me laugh. 😂

Veryberrycherry · 18/11/2018 22:15

Didn't get any with dc1 then i got 3 in last 4 weeks with dc2. I got a few more AFTER I gave birth. They were so itchy. Bio oil didn't work but 10m pp and they've faded now.

RowenaDedalus · 18/11/2018 22:16

I used everything there was. My mum didn’t get stretchmarks either. I got them all over my abdomen at 34 weeks and they just erupted. They look very angry. Then I gave birth and got even more!!

SlB09 · 18/11/2018 22:22

Swear by neals yard mothers balm !

KathyBates · 18/11/2018 22:23

I didn't get any while pregnant. Got heaps on my boobs after I'd given birth though x
