Worried I've left flu jab too late

I'm 32+1 and getting the flu jab today. This is my first DC and I naively thought the midwife would give me the flu jab at one of my routine appointments and only realised last week when I asked her that I should have arranged it myself. I'm so angry with myself for leaving it until now and especially since I had friends visiting a couple of days ago and one was full of cold and spluttering everywhere. I tried to keep away but now DH is ill and I can feel the start of a sore throat etc.

Have I left it irresponsibly late?

Not at all. It takes about 6 weeks for full immunity so still plenty of time for it to have the intended effect.

A cold isn’t the same as the flu. Sadly, the flu jab doesn’t protect you from everything! X

I’m having my flu jab this week (at 31 weeks) I’ve never had flu or a flu jab so I didn’t even think about it... I’m sure we will be okay. I think a cold is very different to flu so catching a cold from someone won’t turn into a cold.

Thanks for the replies it's something I got totally paranoid about when I realised I could have had it done weeks ago. And then I started googling and reading terrifying stories.

You haven’t had flu yet and you’re booked in now. It’s all fine.

Also statistically flu is more prevalent in February and March because we all crowd together indoors when it’s cold in December/January/February and spread it around.

A cold isn’t flu, and the flu jab doesn’t protect against colds so the fact that your friend has a cold is irrelevant really.
I’m 34 weeks and had mine the week before last as that’s when they had a clinic spot. It’s fine!

I was about 32 weeks when I had mine because they only started doing them in October! There’s still plenty of time for you to get the benefit.

I was 37wks as that was when I could get it. Flu jab is more for you than baby

I didn’t get mine until 38 weeks as I was too ill with other stuff before - late is better than never if my theory! Flu jab won’t protect you from colds or other viruses sadly, just the nasty crippling flu. If someone’s visiting you then they definitely don’t have flu!
