Not an ideal situation.

DD is 5 months old and is our first child, I’ve just found out I’m pregnant again. Whilst we always wanted children close in age I’m a bit concerned about a couple of things.

  1. I had a c section and was advised to wait a year to get pregnant. Is there a massive risk?

  2. I had 10months off work before DD was born due to illness, therefore I will have been off for 18 months before my intended return date, by then I will be 4 or 5 months pregnant.

I’m wondering if I’d be best returning early just to try and soften this slightly? And I’m also unsure how pay would all work with having 2 maternity leaves so close together.

It’s not an ideal situation, we were intending on waiting another year, we have been using protection, it just appears to be a contraception failure.

Congratulations on both!

I'm not sure what they said regarding c section but my friend had 4 children under 5 and all were c sections so it is doable. The first one was only a few months when she found out. I guess it's just precaution.

You're very protected when pregnant at work. Technically you'll be back to work a few months again before the next maternity. I think it depends on the company policy with maternity pay but no matter what you get statutory which is better than nothing.

Watching with interest re C section as I want to know the same thing.

Friend of mine had the same situation. She had a VBAC and dr was very unconcerned about her previous section, although she was under consultant care throughout. I would call midwives soon and explain the situation just to be sure as if your precious illness was pregnancy related they may put you on a higher risk pathway. Congratulations by the way, I hope you have a healthy pregnancy.

In terms of the age gap mine are the same. Mostly great. Meal times were hard without 2 adults though. And my food was always tepid at best.

Can't help with the work thing but there are only 15 months between my 3rd and 4th sections.
I was really worried, but none of the consultants were. I wasn't a candidate for vbac so I can't say if it altered that but there were no issues related to the short gap that I can remember.

14 months between mine, best thing ever! Seriously. As far as work goes, do what is right for you, it will be fine.

I'm 23 weeks with DC2 and DC1 is nearly 11 months.

I told work I was pregnant whilst on maternity leave with DC1 and they were fine with it. I'm only going to be back at work for 4 months, but it just is what it is.

I'm definitely having the copper coil fitted after DC2 though! Lol
