High BMI and 12 week scan!

I’ve got a very high BMI (44 Blush) and I’m a bit worried about the Sonographer not being able to perform the scan properly due to this.

My scan is next Tuesday and I’ll be approx 12+3, I carry a lot of my weight on my boobs and around my middle. I’m also panicking because the last time I was in the scanning room it wasn’t good news.

Also worried about the sonographer and consulatant being rude about my weight and making me feel guilty for getting pregnant whilst so obese.

Anyone have any experience?

I had a bmi of 39... my 12wk scan i had an internal one which i was mega embarrassed about at the time, but after going through the number of subsequent (external) scans (due to too much amnoitic fluid), consultant appointments (bmi), blood tests (cant remember why) i stopped caring to be honest as long as i got the all clear after every appointment.

So you may well have an internal scan, but you wont be the 1st or last woman in your position so dont worry! Otherwise i have had no negative reactions from HCPs - just guidance on healthy eating, having consultant-led care etc which i knew would happen.

BMI of 46 here Blush
They managed to get all the information they needed from a normal abdominal scan but they had to press a lot harder and the image wasn't as clear.
Several different points throughout my notes it says "DIFFICULTY TO SCAN DUE TO HIGH BMI" just as a reminder that they didn't fail at scanning me, I'm just fat.

Ah thank you both. I’m not worried about having an internal as have had a few of them before and they don’t really phase me.

I’m more worried about being sent to empty my bladder before having an internal before I’ve actually seen the baby IYSWIM. I’ll be panicking that it hasn’t grown and that I’ve had another MMC.

Ive got a bmi of 48 and bar pressing harder and lying on my left or right side she managed to get all the measurements needed.
Was a bit sore the next day but thats about it.
Dont know if its 'the norm' but she pulled my pants down WAY further than I intented. Im guessing it was just cause I carry all my weight in my belly and she had to 'get under my jiggly bits' to get to uterus. Iykwim.

Anyway my next few scans have all been fab :) just got to lift my belly slightly so she can find heartbeat but then she tells me to let go and just looks normally.
Ive had the same sonographer for the last 3 scans but first one was different so different techniques.
