Early labour...maybe? Or wishful thinking?

Am getting so frustrated...
Am 38 weeks today. Felt a bit odd all weekend. Monday had huge burst of energy, but then Monday night couldn't sleep at all. Strong braxton hicks contractions, my bump going rock hard. Tuesday morning got out of bed at 5am and felt terrible, then had a really strong braxton hicks that I thought must be a proper contraction - it wrapped itself around my abdomen if that makes sense and took my breath away, and made me feel very light headed.
Had a bath and then went to sleep for a few hours. Woke up at midday and...nada. Nothing, felt totally normal.
Then last night had back ache, bump going hard again, and when I got up to go to bed felt really strange and had a very strong braxton hicks that I thought must be a contraction again. Felt very light headed. Thought - this is it! Went to bed to get some rest...fell asleep...woke up and again, nada. Feel totally normal now.
Also, if it's not TMI, have been to loo (poo) 5 times in 24 hours. Not normal for me at all.
So...any advice? Could this be labour or am I massively over-analysing and does this sort of thing happen all the time? Should I be resting or keeping active? Aargh!

I can't help completely as I'm only having my first but my sister did tell me that when you're getting close your body starts to empty itself. So maybe the toilet trips are good sign that it's not far off now?
Good luck!

Could certainly be the start of it, unfortunately early labour can last for days. Make sure you are all ready and good to go when it ramps up.

How you describe is how I felt prior.

Ok thanks @purplestar9 - I had read that as well so hopefully it means something.
Thank you @TwittleBee - funnily enough as soon as I had pressed send on the post my stomach started tightening again, and now the back of my thighs are aching. However I wouldn't say I'm getting any 'waves' of sensation, more just a constant general ache and tightening.
Fingers crossed...!

Cocopops2010 yeah I never saw those waves that get spoken about btw! Oh and also never got regular contractions either, they remained really irregular throughout!

Really wishing you lots of luck and well wishes. Start getting some fluid in you, keep hydrated for sure btw
