Never thought I'd be making a thread about POO!

What remedy's CAN I take? It's getting me down so much and I'm drinking tonnes of water and eating the right things!! :( I just want to be able to go regularly!! I feel the need to go but it just won't come out! I just don't understand 😭 please say I'm not alone? All my friends (some pregnant too) go like every day!

Are you taking pregnacare? I found it left me constipated for the first 13 weeks! Nothing helped at all! Unfortunately it's quite common in early Pregnancy

ChaosMoon · 12/11/2018 21:14

Lactulose. It saved my life last week. Shouldn't take it constantly, but it's great to loosen things up when needed.

Anyat212 · 12/11/2018 21:29

Movicol make sures you go too, your GP can prescribe this or you can buy over the counter. It’s safe and effective I’d recommend that - I use movicol to ‘go’ and lactulose to soften my stool if it’s been horrific.

Prune juice or prunes in general are good too, hope you feel better soon it’s awful Sad

Pigeoncat · 12/11/2018 21:36

Good old reduced faecal movements.

Lactulose Smile

Athers666 · 12/11/2018 21:37

Prune juice saved my life during the first trimester!

Pineau · 12/11/2018 21:41

Drink some Kefir milk.

MrsMcW · 12/11/2018 21:42

Go to the GP and get some Macrogol. Very common and any doctor will prescribe no problem. You take a low dosage every day just to keep things regular.

I mucked about with dried apricots, prunes, etc for ages and ended up with piles and a tear. Went to the doctor and had sweet relief within 48 hours.

hanny24 · 12/11/2018 22:00

@MrsMcW oh that's how I feel! Tried every trick! Will get onto DRs in the morning then!

Prune juice is good. Lactulose is also good

TokenGinger · 12/11/2018 23:03

I've taken to a glass of pure orange juice not from concentrate every morning!

Melamine · 12/11/2018 23:18

Kefir worked a treat for me!

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/11/2018 00:03

Almost 25 weeks here and also badly constipated! The pain felt like bloody contractions last night!

Scottay · 13/11/2018 04:59

I'm the same to the point it was making me feel sick, started tracking my fibre intake in MFP. Recommended intake is 30g a day, I was levelling about 20g. Two fibre one bars a day has sorted me out.

Eluyerakemi · 13/11/2018 05:32

I discovered am pregnant have missed my period for someday now, I just discovered I started have pain in my tummy and letter bleeding, am just weak dnt know Wat to do

Bellabutterfly2016 · 13/11/2018 08:18

I'm 32 weeks and STILL suffering a bit but it has got better.
Have got some stuff but I
avoid white bread, pasta, rice (basically anything stodgy) and I'm eating loads of greens which is definitely helping.

I agree tho - it is extremely painful.

Then there's the acid indigestion 😬 - don't even get me started on that I don't know what's worse!!!!!!!!!

DoingMyBest2010 · 13/11/2018 08:27

Linseeds, soak them in water at night and the go all gooey. Put them through yogurt in the morning.

Pomfluff · 13/11/2018 15:56

Omg I feel you!! Been drinking 2-3L water, eating tons of fruit & veg and taking Lactulose daily but it barely makes a dent, especially after starting iron tablets. Be very careful not to strain too hard or too long!! My experience culminated two days ago with a midnight rush to the hospital because I thought my waters broke after spending 45mins on the worst constipated bowel movement of my life. Everything was swollen & painful, and I think it must've pressed a nerve in my bladder because I had a huge gush of blood-tinged fluid about an hour later. I literally felt like vaginal discharge/waters breaking, and not like it came from my bladder. But after doing lots of swabs and tests in hospital they concluded it wasn't amniotic fluid or UTI and sent me home.

The doctor on duty was lovely and prescribed magnesium citrate, which is actually a magnesium supplement that has stool-softening as a side effect. Rarely heard of that mentioned here before but definitely worth giving it a try. After 3 days of Lactulose + Magnesium, I'm finally regular again and hoping this stays. (She could also see that I had awful hemorrhoids and prescribed cream for those. I didn't even realise how bad they were since I just got used to them after 7 months of constipation, lol).

My current tip is to limit toilet sitting to 10mins, even though it's the worst feeling in the world if you need to go but can't. If it doesn't work, take a break, drink a large glass of water, eat an apple or something that can push your bowels alone and try again in 30mins.

Smurfybubbles · 13/11/2018 16:23

Kiwis were the only thing that got my bowels moving! I blended 2 into a smoothie every morning Grin also take fybrogel sachets every other day. I did this right up until I had DS and didn't have a horrific after birth poo!

hanny24 · 13/11/2018 21:13

UPDATE!!!

Made a phone app with GP today. She prescribed me 'Laxido' in two very large inconspicuous boxes!! HA! Embarrassing collecting that! On a repeat prescription! They taste like absolute '....' pardon the pun! (They're meant to be orange flavour but they most definitely aren't!)

Will update in a few days! I will be taking these forever now it seems! Haha

Wow! that's a generous supply haha.

DoingMyBest2010 · 14/11/2018 11:04

oh ps, sitting with feet on a stool (no pun intended) so you are kind of helping gravity a bit whilst on the loo helps too.

hanny24 · 14/11/2018 17:39

@DoingMyBest2010 yeah I usually do that anyway. But this was beyond that stage I think! 😬

Pregnacare tends to cause constipation. I spoke to my midwife just today about this and she said to change brand

hanny24 · 15/11/2018 10:17

@FlamingoFlamango yeah I have tried pregnacare and the wilkos own brand ones. I'm not taking either now, however I do have a pot of just folic acid that I may just take instead
