Sweep at 38 weeks?

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow with my second baby and have my midwife appointment. I suffered with really severe postnatal anxiety and was still receiving treatment when I fell pregnant. I have continued to see my psychiatrist and have an appointment with the perinatal mental health team next week. My question is would there be any point in asking for a sweep tomorrow as I am just desperate for this pregnancy to be over so I can get back into my medication or will it be a flat out no? I'm in Scotland if that makes any difference

You may as well if you're happy to have it done. It'll work or it wont. I had one at 38+1.. baby was already very low down but the sweep didn't set me off. I had a planned induction though at 38+4 and before inducing me, during initial examination, my waters broke straight away. I had a pessary but was told typically I could be waiting 1-2 days for something to happen. However I then had a very fast labour and baby came less than 8 hours later so I think the sweep may have had a lot to do with it after all.

The baby needs to be properly engaged so no chance of cord prolapse - check with midwife first as it's often forgotten about and done anyway
