Currently 8 weeks pregnant when is a good time to announce to DS.
He's 9..
Starting to feel like he needs to know with my mood, tiredness and morning sickness.

I guess it personal preference, do you wait 12 weeks until you're out of the 'danger zone' as such. He is of a good age where most things can be explained now too. Be warned my kiddies couldn't keep it a secret... had half the teachers at school congratulating me straight away!!!

vicki6356 · 12/11/2018 19:23

My daughter is 9. I told her when I was 5 weeks! I wanted her to be more involved because she’s older so I told her like she had some responsibility now. Worked for me

Would you tell him if you had a miscarriage? How would you explain it? If you can answer those, you'll know what to do.

Bigonesmallone3 · 12/11/2018 19:35

No i wouldn't but that could happen at any stage in a pregnancy so u say don't tell him at all?

It's statistically much more likely to happen before 12 weeks though. Once a heartbeat is seen around 12 weeks your risk of MC goes down to around 2% at 6 weeks it's closer to 20%

But you know, take it as you wish.

We told my partner’s 11yo son at 11 weeks after a scan and NIPT results coming back low risk.

It’s difficult because you don’t want to say anything too early just in case but our big fear was him hearing from somebody else before we had a chance to tell him.

vicki6356 · 12/11/2018 20:14

I explained to my daughter who is 9 all about the ‘safe zone’ she took it all with such maturity. We even then booked a private gender scan so she could come with us. I think including her as helped her massively

Hengine · 12/11/2018 20:18

We told 13yo after 8 weeks.
Didn’t want them to feel it had been kept from them and they’d be able to work out from the due date how long we’d kept it secret

HermioneWaslib · 12/11/2018 20:24

I was so sick that we told my dd before 12 weeks because I was worried she’d be more worried by me saying I was poorly every day. (She knows my mum died after a long illness.)

I’m not out of the safe zone yet but I would happily tell her about a miscarriage. Well, not happily, but I’d rather that that her worry about me.

Bigonesmallone3 · 12/11/2018 20:45

This is my worry, I throw up every morning and am generally not myself atm.
I had a scan Saturday and I know all is good atm.. so I think I may tell him at the weekend

My son is 9 I told him at 9 weeks be prepared tho they will let it slip to people with excitement lol

RiverMeadow · 13/11/2018 21:50

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and had an early scan at 7 weeks. I do t have my NHS scan until 13 weeks and as long as everything is ok I will tell DC1 then. I was really poorly up until around 3 weeks ago but no questions have been asked. DC1 is 7.

thismeansnothing · 13/11/2018 22:25

My DD is 6. We told her when I'd had my 20 week scan (5 weeks ago). We wanted to make sure everything was ok, but also pregnancy is such a long time anyway it has broken it into a nice short stint of waiting for this one's arrival for her. Needless to say she is made up and so so excited to finally be a big sister. We have booked a 4D scan for in a couple of weeks so she can come along and find out if she'll have a little brother or sister

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 14/11/2018 06:11

I waited until after my 12 week scan to tell my 8 year old. Not least to get out of the danger zone, but also as soon as I told her, she told all her friends, who told their mums, so now everyone at school knows.
