I got raspberry leave capsules from Holland and barrett half price about £4 this seems too good to be true as i found one else where which said ok to take from 38 weeks but was £10. It says to consult with doctor prior to taking in pg but i would rather consult mnet I am nearly 38 weeks and consultant wants to do a sweep next tue.

Also does anyone know if pure almond oil is ok for perineal massage?

I drank raspberry leaf tea for last 2wks. Had a easyer birth than the rest. Don't know the difference between tea and capsules. Don't think it help bring the baby any quicker. Good luck

Not sure about tabs, but cup of rasp. tea; one a day from 28 wks, 2 a day from 32 wks and any amount from 35 weeks. I did this and had a good 14 hr labour gave birth on just gas and air (first baby) but 2nd degree tear. As for the oil I think it will be fine, it's a carrier oil used for aromatherapy isn't it? Though I was recommended to use, erm, think it was grapeseed oil. I got a litre bottle in the supermarket for about a pound, for baby massage.
I think the tabs are stronger.

Thanks both. I think you are right about the oil Bramblina, I found it with clary sage oil in my stuff from last pg box but couldn't remember what i used it for. Maybe I will play it safe and get some sweet almond oil which I think is recommended.

I took the tabs, and the tea...er.and the capsules!Covered all bases after never getting a straight answer about which to use and how much!
Also put sweet almond oil in bath everyday. Should think pure almond oil is good enough as my midwife said just to use olive oil.

Pookey- I bought those tablets from Holland & Barratt too, couldn't resist as they were on offer! I started taking mine at 34.5 weeks, one tablet/capsule 3 times a day (after meals). This was based on various things I'd read on mnet! I am planning to up this to 2 capsules 3 times as day once I hit 37 weeks. I don't think there are any hard & fast rules (and have to admit I quite often forget!!), they are not meant to bring on labour but shorten labour by making contractions more efficient...well that's the theory!!

I'm using sweet almond oil for perineal massage...well actually haven't start yet but will soon!! I'm sure pure almond oil is fine too.

Good luck for your sweep! xx

Just a thought re the oil. Be warned: I used wheatgerm oil for perennial massage - started at 32 weeks, it gave me thrush which lasted until I gave birth

...then again, I do have a very sensitive fanjo

I personally wouldn't use oil if you are prone to thrush, try KY jelly instead

Wheatgerm! That was it! Sorry! I think I bought some, but never actually did it. Will next time though.

Pookey, just realised this is your thread ! Oh dear you and your pm and Miaou's already packing her bags...feeling I really am taking too long!!! Good luck anyway.
