21weeks and just ordered a Hana baby wrap! I don't have anything more useful (clothes etc), but had to get the ball rolling somewhen!

Anyone else in the second trimester taken the plunge yet? 😀

Hi Clowns I’m 26+6 and only started buying in the last few weeks (probably later than a lot of people)

Rather oddly the first thing I ordered was reusable nappies(!) just because the deal on Amazon was so good (something like £125 to £23 per pack)

Since then I’ve boufht a few baby grows and vests, we’ve just got a car seat (again got a good deal) and we ordered our pram last weekend

It is really exciting when you start buying!

clownstotheleft · 11/11/2018 07:41

Hi @AliceRR, we're trying to make lists and put it off until January sales to get the best bargain, but couldn't wait to at least get one thing! I was also looking at reusable nappies, which ones did you go for, I'm leaning towards the bambino miosolos right now, but it all seems like a choice minefield (I'm going for disposables for the first month when baby is really tiny and I'm new to the whole baby thing!).

I was exactly the same, thought I’d get everything in the sales, still might.

The nappies were the Bambino Mio solos and it was a really good deal for 8 nappies and a bucket and some other stuff for £23 so I got three sets. The price kind of made the decision for me as it just seemed such a good deal. I only knew about it because someone in my antenatal group on mumsnet told me. They went back up to full price the next day but may be worth keeping an eye on Amazon. Maybe they’ll do a Black Friday deal.

I want some cloths or something to use as reusable wipes as well - may as well if I’m going to be washing anyway

We’re also hoping to move house before Christmas so I don’t really want to buy loads of stuff only to have to move it but it is nice to buy the odd little outfit. I got three or four things in Debenhams, something in Morrisons and then yesterday bought a few little items in marks and spencer. It’s lovely to buy some bits and also I think spreads the cost a bit as otherwise we’d be paying out loads in Jan.

SoyDora · 11/11/2018 08:32

33 weeks and probably ought to buy something Grin

AliceRR · 11/11/2018 08:39

@SoySora what are you holding out for? Do it in your own time. A month or so ago I went to a mums to be beauty event with my pregnant friend. She’d alresdy been buying stuff (she’s due in March) and thought it was odd I hadn’t bought loads but I put it off til it felt right which was probably later than a lot of others

SoyDora · 11/11/2018 08:43

Not holding out for anything really, it’s not my first baby (although we have got rid of most things from the previous 2) and have realised from experience that we don’t need all that much, and will get everything on next day delivery from Amazon Prime when life is a bit less hectic so no rush really. People keep asking me if we’re ‘prepared’ though!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 11/11/2018 08:47

Congratulations ladies. I'm 20 wks with number 2 and all I have to sort out is a pram, which I'm massively overthinking!
I used reusable Nappies from birth with my toddler and run a nappy library www.uknappynetwork.org/find-a-library.html

Unicornandbows · 11/11/2018 09:02

Are reusable nappies better than disposable

bluebird3 · 11/11/2018 09:04

johnlapsy which reusable nappies are your favourite? I've been thinking about taking the plunge but it's a lot to invest if we don't end up liking them.

physicskate · 11/11/2018 09:05

I'm 23 weeks. We got the travel system at 15 weeks (reduced from £700 to £300!!!! As it was a 2016 model). We painted the nursery last week and we bought some curtains that we're having a helluva time hanging (new curtain rails too). We've also got the nursery furniture on order (it was a good deal too - cot wardrobe and changing table for less than £500 when the wardrobe we liked at John Lewis cost that!).

I think everything else is going to be a combination of Black Friday/ January sales.

First baby and we were ttc for a LONG time so I expect us to massively go overboard!

ChaosMoon · 11/11/2018 09:16

I'm 19 weeks, and we'd decided to wait until my anomaly scan at 21 weeks to start buying. DH has now decided he wants to wait for the January sales. I realise this makes sense but I started to feel the baby kick properly this week (😍😍😍) and it's left me with a desperate urge to shop!

I'm looking at cloth nappies too. Living the recommendations on here.

AliceRR · 11/11/2018 10:03

@SoyDora I think that’s fine. I think people overdo it sometimes especially with the first and then ending buying too much. As long as you know what you need / want you can order it much closer to the time. That was my plan really but I did start buying a bit recently.

I think cloth nappies will be cheaper and better for the environment but time will tell how easy it is to keep up with that.

@ChaosMoon You can always start looking even if you don’t want to buy yet. We started looking at prams a month or two ago and it took a us time to narrow down to the one we want with parent to be evenings and nursery appointments etc.

Avegemitesandwich · 11/11/2018 10:06

Awwww, my baby making days are gone, but I saw this thread title and it totally brought me back to when I was pregnant with my first and the excitement of taking the plunge of buying those first few bits. Such a lovely feeling, congratulations Smile

ChaosMoon · 11/11/2018 10:19

@AliceRR, sounds like I need to then if we're going to make a decision in the sales!

clownstotheleft · 11/11/2018 11:37

@AliceRR that's an amazing deal! I'll have to look out on Black Friday, unfortunately we're living somewhere that doesn't have Amazon (coming from the U.K. I feel it's absence badly!) - but I can have stuff posted to family if great bargains like that turn up!

I've been eyeing up onesies but can't bring myself to buy anything quite yet, although we've narrowed out pram list to two, but they don't have either model here so I'm waiting til Xmas to travel home and check them out in person. Luckily we do have Ikea and have an idea of what we can get there for the nursery. This is our first so we don't have anything yet! Soooo much stuff to research 😂

AliceRR · 11/11/2018 12:16

You should definitely check pushchairs out in person and side by side if you can

I was interested in Silver Cross and Mamas & Papas. I struggled slightly to decide until I learned I could go into Mothercare and see both and you can see the difference in size, weight, quality, ease of folding etc.

Baby160P · 11/11/2018 12:38

25+4 here.

We held off until 20 weeks but when we see a bargain we've gone for it.

We have a nursery list too as our family is so big everyone wants to buy things.

Our cribs on order for just before Xmas when we'll be 32 weeks for the pure fact OH cousin had her baby at 34 weeks and he wants to be prepared!

snoopy18 · 11/11/2018 15:21

21 weeks here and started to get bits as I’ve seen some great promos at Baby Gap & a few other stores. Waiting on Black Friday for higher ticket prices & family have already started buying oops! Still not going crazy incase anything is to go wrong but fingers crossed for everyone!

yesmelord · 11/11/2018 15:33

17 weeks (today) with DD2! She's due Easter Day, April 21st.

I've so far purchased the travel system and a few packs of new born baby grows. I've also purchased the paint for her room.

Waiting for the sales to buy the nursery furniture, curtains and the other bigger purchases.

Got boxes and boxes of DD1s stuff in the attic I need to have a look through too!

We're very exited for this baby! I can't seem to stop myself getting bits and bobs and looking online at things! Smile

clownstotheleft · 11/11/2018 16:05

Forgot to add I would recommend the cheeky wipes, I already use them for face wipes and they wash really well, plus they do black sets too!

@Unicornandbows have you checked out the NappyLady website, it is very informative about pros and cons of reusable nappies.

We're also (trying my hardest) to wait for scan before going too mad @Monipop84 (it's on Tuesday after being delayed a week due to DH messing up his work schedule 😳) - plus my family are soooo superstitious, my sister told me my nanna would be rolling in her grave if stuff was bought before 6 months! 😂

@bluebird3 we liked 2 partners. In the day we used prefolds and double gusset wraps, and overnight we used bamboo or hemp fitteds with wool covers.
