Bleeding at 5 weeks?

Hi all. Got my BFP this week and worked out I'm about 5 weeks pregnant. This morning, noticed some blood after going to toilet. Not had any through day but got home and started again only this time, a fair bit more. The blood is bright red too. I'm in no form of pain (apart from the odd dull menstrual-type pain) and feel fine apart from worrying sick about this bleeding. Didn't bleed so early in previous pregnancy so I'm worried something may be wrong. Spoke to midwife this morning, said to put a pad on to monitor and if bleeding a lot and/or in pain, to go to A&E.
I'm in a right state. Any advice so so welcome. Thankyou

Take another test?
There really isn't anything you can do but wait it out at this early stage.
I bled at about 8 weeks with dc1, then at 6+a few with my second pregancy, at 5+a few on my third pregnancy with no pain either, and then a huge amount at 10weeks with dc2 (fourth pregnancy)
My mc's didn't have any gap between bleeds even though they were painless but my bleeds with my successful pregnancies did have gaps between bleeds, so that's something right?
Also, tested negative as soon as my bleeding started with mc's.
Wishing you the best x

Thankyou. I'm just living constant fear that something bad is going to happen. Had nothing overnight but as soon as went to toilet, bleeding again. Bright red blood but still no pain. Reading mumsnet and Google, it all seems that this is perfectly normal and mum's go on to have very healthy babies, just fingers crossed I'm one of them. Thankyou Emma x

Fingers crossed for you. I had bleeding 7,9amd 10 weeks now 12 weeks and had more yesterday... I am constantly on edge! I had a scan at 7 weeks, not sure if at five weeks it’s a bit early but maybe ask your midwife?

Onebiteofeverything · 10/11/2018 18:44

At this stage I’m afraid it could go either way. I had bright red bleeding from 4 weeks to 11 weeks in my current pregnancy. Always light enough that it was just on wiping rather than needing pads, but it was very red fresh blood.

I’m now 21 weeks and it has stopped and everything is going fine.

However before this pregnancy I had 2 miscarriages which started with light bleeding and then got heavier. I got a negative test both times once the bleeding picked up.

Just to add when I had a Mc at five weeks between my two first children the bleeding started and continued, didn’t stop and start... hopefully that’s a positive for your situation. Let us know how you go on x

I had bleeding between 8-10 weeks, I even paid for a private scan as I was so sure all had gone wrong - it was fine and I was told it was normal. Mine was stop and start too if that helps x

Gothqueen · 11/11/2018 10:47

Thankyou. It does seem that this is more normal than I thought but agree that it makes it no less stressful worrying about it. I only had spotting yesterday, nothing overnight again but woke up in the early hours with a horrible pain in my left side. Like period pain coming and going in waves. Managed to fall back asleep and woke up to no blood. Been to toilet and more blood than ever on wiping. So, plan for tomorrow, school run and ring epau to find out what's going on in there because of course now I'm fearing the worst 😞 x

Hi! I had three separate bleeds in my first trimester. There was no real explanation given, but baby is fine. I'm 26 weeks now, so it doesn't always mean the worst.

Good luck x

I've just come from the docs who took a test and it came out negative. I'm being sent up to the early pregnancy unit at the hospital to check my blood levels but can't bring myself to go to be told again that I've lost it. Ive come home, disbelieving what the dr told me and took my own test which came out positive. I'm all over the place now. Just dont know what to do/think. OH is in bits and I'm absolutely distraught.

Really sorry you’re going through this. Please do go up to EPAU - pain + bleeding + ambiguous test results could mean ectopic in which case you need to be seen.

Gothqueen · 13/11/2018 19:45

Ended up at epu yesterday for hours. Got to unit and blood just started pouring. Tiny tiny little black clots but nothing big. Give a water sample and hospital confirmed it was positive. Had an internal and bled everywhere so Dr couldn't see anything. Registrar came and did an internal and said that my cervix was closed and, if I was miscarrying, it would be open. Then, they took blood for my hcg levels and told me to ring back in 3 hours. Did that and figure was 58! So I have to go back for repeat bloods tomorrow to see if they've increased. Bled all day today with a bit of pain but not soaking through pads or anything. So very confused! Anybody else had this?? Could it be serious implantation bleeding or a bleed in my cervix? Looking for positives because me and OH are in a mess x

I had this at five weeks, it was a blood clot on my womb. I hope it's the same for you. I was fine with some rest

Gothqueen · 14/11/2018 20:09

Hi. Just an update. I got my bloods back and my hcg has increased from 58 to 67. Not a brilliant increase but an increase nevertheless. Having to go back Friday for more bloods to be taken. OH thinks I'm much earlier into my pregnancy than first thought. Bleeding has ebbed a bit and no cramping. Surely the increasing levels are a good sign and things are going the right way??

It depends how long there was between bloods taken. hCG in early pregnancy should be doubling every 48-72 hours. Hopefully the test on Friday will give you something conclusive to work with and you’ll know for definite, whatever it is that’s happening. The waiting is horrible to go through. Flowers Brew

Gothqueen · 14/11/2018 20:53

Thankyou. Just playing the waiting game again and hoping that things double or at least show significant improvement on Friday. Read loads of posts online and most end up in loss either through miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. I'm trying to be optimistic for my OH sake but mentally preparing myself for the worst x
