Sore Throat - Strep A?

Hi everyone

I’m 12 weeks pregnant and have a sore throat (more sore when swallowing) and a little lump in my lymph nodes. I’m sure I read that those can be Strep A/Strep throat symptoms - has anyone had Strep A in pregnancy and do you know if you need antibiotics?

I would never worry about something like this if I wasn’t pregnant - I think it’s turned me into a worry wart!

Thanks all. X

I had strep throat recently (not pregnant) and honestly thought I was going to die. Hallucinating, couldn't talk, eat etc.

I really think you would know if it was anything more than a run of the mill sore throat but pop and check with a pharmacist to put your mind at ease. They'll soon tell you if you need to get it checked by the doctor.

Congratulations by the way!

I second the PP. I had this once on holiday and ended up in hospital because my throat was so swollen I couldn't drink water. I have no idea if it's always that serious but a pharmacist will definitely be able to suggest if it is strep throat in which case you should get to the GP and get some antibiotics. Not sure about whether it is treated differently in pregnancy but worth getting checked out, especially if you're feeling worried.
