Hi everyone! I had my first midwife appointment this week at 9 weeks pregnant. Obviously they go through medical history and lots of details and the system then basically spits out the level of risk and whether you should be referred to a consultant.

I have Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I'm also currently awaiting tests under Urology too. Plus over the years, I've suffered with anxiety and had CBT although I'm fine now.

Consequently, the system classified me as intensive risk to be referred to a consultant. I'm not particularly worried but I wondered if anyone else has had similar experiences? Also what should I expect at the consultant appointments?

Thanks so much! :)

Hey,

I was under a consultant for my first pregnancy, and will be under a consultant for this pregnancy and birth (currently 6 weeks so early days).

The consultant apps will be pretty straightforward, they are usually 5-10mins but you might spend a while wiating for them!

They will check through your notes, usually take bloods, its just a check - i was never examined.

I think their role is just to look out for any irregularities, you might find if your pregnancy is going well and your feeling well they discharge you from consultative care or lower your risk, as your pregnancy goes on.
