Super headache

Hi all

I found out I was pregnant on Monday and yesterday and today I’ve had the worst headache. I suffer from bad headaches particularly at certain times of the month so I assume it’s hormone related (plus I haven’t had caffeine since Monday!)

Can I take paracetamol? I can’t really move at the moment without feeling like I’m being stabbed in the head. The issue I have is that I know some people advise against it and when my headaches are this bad, sometimes even paracetamol doesn’t help so don’t want to take it, it not help and then me worry about having took it!!

Sorry for wittering on. Any headache advice would be appreciated!!

Yes, you can take paracetamol. As with anything in pregnancy they recommend you take the lowest dose you can for the shortest period possible.

What is the advice on caffeine now? I’d be inclined to have no more than one small filter coffee per day if it kept the headaches away.

Are you drinking enough water?

Thanks Polly, I’m going to try a cold compress and if that doesn’t work, I may take the plunge. Don’t think there’s anything wrong with a cup of coffee a day. I’m a tea drinker though and I actually like decaf tea so have just decided to make the swap. If it is partly because of caffeine withdrawal, I’m hoping my body will get over it soon enough. I never drank THAT much though! I have had a fair bit of water today so far but I guess there’s always room for more....
