Measuring Cervical Length

My ds arrived at 29 weeks so in this pregnancy I'm consultant led and will have regular cervical measurements taken. My first one is on Monday. Only thing is I have no idea what this involves! How on earth do they measure a cervix?! Ds joked about a the doctor whipping out a tape measure and I laughed... nervously. Anyone able to tell me what to expect?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

They’ll do it with a transvaginal scam usually. Can be done abdominally but is not quite as accurate. If it is short or shortening they may consider putting a stitch in or talking to you about other options. Scan itself is very quick and they’ll usually let you have a peek at baby too! (34 weeks into a pregnancy with a short cervix and a stitch which is clearly doing the job!).
