Questions to ask Home birth team

I’m strongly considering a Home birth and meeting the Home birth team for my area soon.

Any thoughts on what I should be asking them?

TIA

Things I wish I'd asked mine:

  1. how many home births have you attended?

  2. how long will you stay with me once I've delivered the placenta (ie you don't want them to pack up and leave after 10 minutes).

  3. what are the main risks of a home birth and in what situations will you recommend a transfer to hospital?

Thanks!

Anyone else?

Ask questions for your own reassurance.. I’m pretty certain they could be answered on here but you need to hear them from the medical professionals. I wrote a 2 page list!

I.e what happens in worst case scenario, needing resus, excessive bleeding etc, baby health checks

When do I call hospital.. what if it starts out as home and I can’t handle it?

What pain relief options are there

What are the risks, If any? What happens if I’m blue lighted ? (For example I discovered the midwives will say it’s an immediate risk to life - even tho it usually isn’t- just to make sure the ambulance comes asap). If I heard this and didn’t know before hand, I’d panic.

How many midwives in attendance?

What is the criteria for a good candidate for home birth? Ie location/distance to hospital
