When do you run out of room with twins?

Hiya,

Does anyone know when you run out of room with twins? I’m 28 weeks now. The reason I ask is because they don’t kick as much now and I feel more of a rolling and pushing sensation. This is my first pregnancy and naturally I worry about everything but now that I’ve noticed less kicking I worry something is wrong. I’ve been told by some people to count movements & kicks the same as a singleton pregnancy and then I’ve been told by others not to bother with twins because it’s hard to tell which one is moving anyway.

I first started feeling kicking etc at around 16 weeks and I could tell which one was kicking! And then at around 20 weeks was when I started to feel it really strongly and noticed the pattern of morning and evening. And then at around 25 weeks I could feel them all the time and it felt like there was no damn pattern I was just a punching bag! And now it’s just rolling, or a slow movement like I feel an actual hand or foot pushing out (I can’t see it though). I’m thinking maybe they are running out of space? I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday so maybe I should ask then but I just wanted to see what everyone else’s experiences were with twins?

Thanks!

I remember with my twins it was definitely more movements that felt like them rolling or pushing for space, my whole tummy would move- it was very strange! With my single babies it was definitely more jabby!

I gave birth at 37 weeks. I had definitely run out of room at that point lol

If you ever feel worried it's best to get checked- never wait till your next appointment xx

Hi,

Thanks for your reply :)

I text my midwife and she called me. She said from what I have described it sounds normal that the feeling of movements etc has changed but she obviously cannot tell me if all is okay over the phone as it’s my body not hers. She said if I have a feeling something isn’t right or feel hardly anything then not to be embarrassed and just ring the triage line.

It’s bloody typical because since being on the phone to her and chatting to her I can feel lots of kicking again!! It’s not as hard but it’s still there. I know what I am like - I am an anxious person anyway so if I feel something different I tend to catastrophize things in my head! i have definitely had at least 10 little kicks in the past 40 mins so I think all is good - i can feel a pushy ripple feeling as I type this now!

I will keep monitoring and if I am still worrying will definitely ring the triage line!

I've only had a singleton pregnancy so not much help here I'm afraid, but please do get yourself checked out if you're ever worried. You may feel as though you're wasting their time but you're really not.

If movements aren’t normal, definitely call triage. I felt like I’d run out of space at about 30-32 weeks, but the twins and my body had other plans.

I don't think I ever felt my twins were out of room but I did feel the rest of me ran out of room instead. So small dinners and constant peeing because I could fit much in me.

I thought I knew where they were all the time and did have a freak out when I couldn't feel one move. After a trip to the hospital and a scan I found out they moved so really I felt them both but put it down to one.

Trust your instincts and you'll know what feels right and wrong. Also work out what gets them going if you wanted to check. I tried cold water but it didn't work for me but lying flat on my back got them dancing around.

Twins here too & 27 weeks. I do feel kicks & jabs but a lot of rolling sensations too. You know what's normal for you and never be afraid to phone the triage line. I went last night about 10pm because I was concerned one twin was moving less. They checked & they were wriggling away as usual. I kept apologising and the midwife said we'd rather see you 100 times and send you home reassured than have you not come in & something be wrong,

Hi everyone
Sorry for late reply.

I saw my midwife and she said everything is fine and it seems they are getting bigger and now they are forming a specific pattern which is actually a good thing so that’s why things seemed different. Relieved that everything is okay ☺️
