HI all,

I have just found out I’m pregnant around 4 weeks gone. I have had a trip booked for last 6 month traveling Australia where I will be around 8 weeks It will involve 8 flights (two being 24hr plus) and a fair bit of driving (me being the passenger)

I was wondering if this was safe and if anyone had ever done this?

You should be fine! Although just be prepared for sickness if you get it, some are lucky enough not too! Just look after yourself :) if you're concerned speak to a doctor to ensure you'll be safe :)

I’m off to Budapest tomorrow (I’m 7 weeks today). This was booked before I thought I had a hope in hell of being pregnant. Now I’m almost constantly queasy, and not looking forward one bit to the flights! Nor, for that matter, to feeding my fussy, alergic self in a foreign language! (I’m not normally fussy).

I’m wearing sea bands constantly anyway, so I’m hoping that my anti-nausea app, a nice drink of water, and unlimited mints see me through without the flight being memorable in any negative way.

I hope that your trip goes well, @Gemmac10. Some advice I’ve read is to make sure you drink enough, keep moving, and try to get an aisle seat on long trips. Maybe also consider support stockings for the longer flights, as your risk of DVT is increased. Also, you’re advised not to fly in smaller planes without pressurised cabins because that can make it harder for you and baby both to get enough oxygen.

Just done 2 8 hour flights to Australia and back with lots of driving and travelling around. I was 7+5 when we went. Supposed to be on a 9+ hour flight there and back again for a long weekend this weekend at 9+4 but probably cancelling - not due to pregnancy though. Doing a short hop in a few weeks to a pretty remote place which I'm slightly worried about - not ideal timing - but I'm sure will be fine. Then another very long haul at about 13 weeks. All planned before bfp. I say enjoy the calm flights and travelling light while you still can.

Oh yes - definitely aisle seats so you can move and don't have to climb over people to pee all the time. Also loads of water.
