Anyone take levothyroxine?

Just found out I'm pregnant last week so am about 5.5 weeks. Dr has put my thyroid medicine up from 50 to 75mg daily to try to reduce my TSH levels from 3ish down to 1ish. For the last few days I've been having severe headaches, sciatica type pain down my bum and legs with very achey muscles, waking in the night a lot and not able to get back to sleep. Do you think this could be the thyroxine or pregnancy? Am in agony and have really struggled to look after my toddler this weekend.

I'm not a doctor but am on levothyroxine, including through 2 pregnancies. I haven't had any of your symptoms precisely despite being both under medicated and over medicated at different times. I've had some of those due to pregnancy though. However everyone is different and my experience is certainly not medical advice 🙂 congrats by the way.

when do you take your tablets? I take mine morning and I'm fine. I tried taking them in the evening and lost the ability to sleep before 3 in the morning! Just wandering if there could be any link with not being able to fall asleep again, and when you take them? Does seems coincidence if you haven't had this before though.

I didn’t have those symptoms either, and also got put up 25mg in early preg, but who knows, maybe worth checking in with gp if you are worried. You have my sympathies, first trimester with a toddler was not fun. Don’t be afraid to rely on tv during the rough bits!

Thanks science. I take them in the morning too and have been on 25mg or 50mg for a couple of years now with no issues which is why I thought maybe that's what it is. Could of course just be pregnancy seeing as the two things happened at the same time. Anyway have just drank a load of Calpol as we have no other paracetomol and I'm desperate!

Hi,

I had a thyroidectomy so take liquid levothyroxine every day. Mine too was increased as TSH shot up to 8.something early on. I'm not sure it's specifically to do with pregnancy but when things have been out of whack levels wise I can get achey muscles, restless legs etc

Hope you feel better soon x

It's not your thyroxine..... you need to increase your dose as soon as pregnant as you need more to cover for baby too who doesn't make their own until about 16 weeks. TSH >2.5 has higher chance of miscarriage so important to get down ASAP. Good luck
