Sickness tablets not stopping sickness

I had hg in my last pregnancy and this time it's been similar but I've not been officially diagnosed. Im now 11 + 2 and have been vomiting anything from 1-8 times a day, although usually around 3-4 and have been signed off for 6 weeks. I've been on Prochlorperazine and cyclizine since 6 weeks and do feel that it's helping. However I saw a new doctor on Wednesday who was shocked that I'm still being sick on anti sickness meds. I thought that was just normal tbh and that they were prob taking the edge off it rather than fixing it completely. She offered to prescribe stronger meds but I declined as things do seem to be getting easier; only been sick once a day for a couple of days now, although still very nauseus. Has anyone found that anti sickness meds stop the vomiting completely?

I'm the same as you really, around 11 weeks been on the meds since 6 weeks, they haven't really helped much. They have lessened the vomiting a little but I still feel ridiculously sick.

Thats such a shame; it's just rubbish isn't it!

Sickness normally stops about 3 months in when hormones sort themselves out - so not long to go now. There are lots of tips on what will help but I found having ginger or peppermint tea before getting out of bed in the morning helped and eating smaller meals but having six snacks a day rather than the "usual three meals a day" also helped. Also try increasing your protein, cheese, milk or whatever. Hope you all feel better soon.

I find sugary sweets help, or sugary drinks. The only time I haven't felt sick is either when asleep haha or if I'm eating! I feel bad moaning about it though, my dp is sick of me saying I feel sick I think haha.

I’m on antisickness meds and from googling them, and looking at what people have said about their effectiveness lots of people say they stop the vomiting, but equally I’ve seen lots of people say that the medication just took the vomiting down to a more manageable level. Hopefully you’re starting to come out of it now if it’s been better for the last few days, but if I’d comes back I’d be tempted to try the other medication

I used ranitidine(sp?) with cyclazine. And that's what made the difference. The cyclazine on it's own didn't stop it.

Last time it lasted until week 17. Unfortunately with sickness this bad the usual tips of ginger and peppermint don't even touch the sides.

@KateTTC123 I was the same as you ! Nothing worked in both pregnancies all they way upto delivery I had morning sickness, and the tablets I was prescribed made me quite tired and "not with it" . I seen a new GP who prescribed me metocloparamide. And they worked wonders ! Might be worth a ask

KateTTC123 · 02/11/2018 16:35

@gingermammy I might give that a go thank you :)

That’s standard morning sickness, not HG.

I’ve never known sickness tablets stop it completely and the best I’ve ever managed (cyclizine + ondansetron) is cutting the vomiting right down and reducing the worst of the nausea.

I was exactly like you OP from week 6 - 14 I was sick anywhere between 3 - 8 times per day! I lost 10 pounds in four weeks (I weighed 9.4 stone before pregnancy, I was shocked I lost so much) and was well and truley miserable. I was prescribed ondansetron and they’ve helped massively (I’m sick every now and then - I’m 17 weeks tomorrow) I’ve cut down to 1/ half a tablet per day (mainly working days) if I’m at home and don’t take them I’m back with my head in the loo and similar to you, was signed off work for 3 weeks with 1 week holiday.

I tried cyclazine and they made me 100% WORSE including feeling very spaced out, drowsy and was sick more. I only took them for 2 days as that was enough. Peppermint tea, mints and chewing gum helped a little throughout along with sea sickness bands. I can’t tell you if it was more my mind or them actually working but I’d recommend them.

I hope you feel better soon though x
