Curious really- I'm due at the beginning of Jan and will be visiting relatives for Christmas when I'll be 38 weeks. It wouldn't be a disaster if I went into labour when I was away, I'd just have to go to the local hospital and I'm guessing this must happen fairly frequently? But would love to know how far along people were when they had their first!

37 weeks (water broke 2 days prior though) - funnily enough I was meant to be on holiday when I gave birth (about 8 hours from home) but my mum persuaded me to cancel it as where we were gonna go was very remote (2 hours to nearest maternity unit)

I wouldn't worry about going to a different hospital than your local too much though as I cant imagine it be that much different than going to your own local? The thing I would consider though is the drive home as newborns shouldn't be in a car seat for more than half an hour.

I'd take your notes, car seat, and hospital bag just in case :)

Although, depending on the distance I think I'd rather have set off home when I realised I was in labour (I had about 10 hours before I went to hospital) than make the trip pp with a newborn.

KiwiFroot · 02/11/2018 11:37

The distance is about 300 miles so not an option to pop home unfortunately! Would be a long drive home with a newborn stopping every thirty minutes if I do end up giving birth away from home.

Statistically you are more likely to give birth post 38 weeks if this is your first.

KateTTC123 · 02/11/2018 11:39

29 + 5 for unknown reasons. Total shock.

BarryTheKestrel · 02/11/2018 11:41

41+3. (According to scan dates but by my dates from ovulation she'd have been 39+4 due to my extra long cycles)

I'd make sure you have your notes with you and are prepared to give birth in a different hospital.

She arrived on her due date. Apparently this is rare.

I would probably go if I were you unless I had any twinges or cramping suggesting labour might be imminent. First babies are usually late so you will probably be okay.

Might be worth making a midwife apt just before you go to get checked over.

insertcaffeine · 02/11/2018 11:49

39+1 but I was induced so I don't think that counts.

ThatUsernameIsTaken · 02/11/2018 11:51

40 on the dot!

Thetimehascometo · 02/11/2018 11:58

SheldonCooper77 · 02/11/2018 12:03

33+6 due to placental abruption. No prior warning anything was wrong.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 02/11/2018 12:04
