Due baby no 1 in January, I've bought some baby clothes and also been given some but even the ones that all say newborn look totally different sizes. How do you know which to pack for taking to hospital with you Confused

Obviously all babies are different sizes when they come out so one size doesn't always fit all. I got loads of 0-3 months thinking my baby wouldn't be in them long and as it turns out she hardly fits in newborn as everything's too big. 0-3 clothes look absolutely massive and I doubt she'll be in them for a while yet. She was 6lb 10oz. I'd take a few babygrows in newborn and if they vary in size take a range so you'll have something that hopefully fits x

Yeah think that's what I'll need to do. Some of the sleepsuits are a good few inches longer in the leg and arms that others which are supposed to be the same size

Tbh it's an absolute minefield. My dd was 7lbs 11oz but newborn still drowned her for the first few weeks as her legs were short. I bought some 'tiny baby' baby grows from a charity shop just before she was born but one fit the others didnt(!) Unfortunately it doesn't get any better, she is 3 now but can easily be in a 2-3 yo dress from John Lewis one day, 3-4 from M&S the day after then a 12 -18 month from Sainsbury the following day!

I would just pack newborn, if it is too big presumably someone can pop out and buy some tiny baby (asda has a nice range and are cheap) or if too small bring in something bigger.

I was sorting mine today, it's a nightmare! John Lewis newborn is bigger than Mamas & Papas newborn and Zara/H&M/Petit Bateau/Vertbuadet 0-1. Frugi newborn is huge, at least as big as everyone else's 0-3.

I'm taking a selection of items in different brands to cover all eventualities!

They're as bad as women's clothes IMO. Take newborn or 0-3, slightly loose sleepsuits are fine.

Each shop has slightly different sizes. I think mothercare have 2 newborn sizes up to 7lb and up to 9lb.

I suggest 1 pack of babygrows in newborn and 1 in up to 1 month size. Unless you have a vvv big baby one of those will do for hospital bag. Then buy more in 0-3 months. Once baby is born you'll know whether you need to pick up more newborn/up to 1 month. Online shopping/send someone to get anything you need.

Look at the weight range as well as the age size. I found shops would categorise new born as anything from 6-10lbs. It's a minefield, but hardly surprising as shops can never seem to agree on sizing for any age!

Or pick up a cheap barely worn bundle off eBay to cover all options

Dd was 4 lb 15oz and even the riny baby stuff was too big at first . Ds 6lb 7oZ tiny baby from boots newborn from Tesco at first found there to have some of the smallest newborn stuff
