Moses basket vs next to be crib

Hi all❤️

We are trying to decide between a Moses basket and next to be crib

We are a bit stuck for space in our room for a next to be crib as it would mean bed pushed against the wall to fit a next to me in and then it wouldn't leave much space to get by

A Moses basket it a bit more portable than a next to me by the looks of it and we could put it at bottom of bed or a corner but I have been told they don't last as long as the cribs

Basically looking for advice as FTM so clueless

Should we get the next to me and just have less space or get the Moses basket and hope it lasts till 5-6 months before baby goes into cot in her own room?

How long do babies generally fit in a Moses basket?

Thanks
S❤️

I think it’s unlikely that you’d
safely get 6 months out of a Moses basket tbh.

Sorry, pressed send to soon. Maybe 8-12
Wks max on Moses basket depending on size of baby? What age do they say they are safe to use up to? I’d get the next to be crib which can be used for a least 6 months.

How about a normal crib, still bigger than a Moses basket but can also go at the end of the bed?

DreamingofSunshine · 30/10/2018 10:24

I agree, I think a next to me has far more longevity than a moses basket.

My baby is 3 weeks tomorrow and doesn't even have a heads length of room left in his Moses basket. However he doesn't settle in his next to me crib so 😐

We’ve bought a Next to Me for DC2, because I’m having a c section and won’t be able to sit up to lift baby in/out. If there is any way you could squeeze a next to me in, I would. We had Moses basket and it didn’t last longer than 6 weeks. It also meant I had to fully sit up and put baby in/out (which we know won’t be possible this time). DH is obviously around to help but I know in the middle of the night that I would like to be able to just shuffle baby across into their own space, rather than put light on, wake DH etc. I will be breastfeeding so no point waking him up if no need!

You'd be lucky to get 6-8 weeks out of a Moses basket imo. Iv got a snoozepod this time around and will get buy on a little space as will save me money in the long run.

Thanks all

Just going to go with next to me type cot then as seems the best option especially is baby grows out of Moses basket quickly

Might try a talk the partner into a rearranging the bedroom now so we can work out spacing ect

Another vote for a next-to-me.
We had a moses basket, ds hated it and ended up sleeping in with us until he was about 12 weeks old. None of us got much sleep. Then one day I lost my marbles and impulse-purchased a next-to-me and never looked back. Wish I'd got it sooner!
He was in it til about 8 months old too.
Good luck!

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 30/10/2018 11:39

We had a next to me for DS which was pretty much against the wall/ against the bed, to be honest it was a pain as I had to go to the end of the bed to get out (or get on DH side). That, and I couldn't open my bedside drawer for 6 months! BUT I would 100% get one and will be for DC2. Best thing ever! My DS was in it for 7/8 months-ish which you wouldn't get from a normal moses basket.
Make it work!

I'm also considering a next to me are they suitable from new born?

Angharad07 · 30/10/2018 19:17

The Snuzpod is slightly thinner than the Chico next to me crib so maybe easier to get down the side of the bed?

What would people recommend Snuzpod or Chico Next to me?

My 50th centile baby was in her Moses basket until 6 months! Only took her out of it as she was crawling and it wasn’t safe. She loved it!
However for this baby (number 3) I think we’re going to get a Next to Me (or the tutti bambini version, haven’t decided yet).

Looove the next2me, way better than the Moses we had last time. We got ours on sale at Very and used the new credit discount (then paid it off immediately so as not to incur interest) so it came in at around £100 and they seem to have a resale value of about £70.
