What can I take for a stinking cold an sore throat? Dying for a Lemsip but know I can't have one. Literally work up with a bunged up nose and throat is like razor blades, glands up etc. Xx

Hot water with lemon and honey. Paracetamol. Steam.

I've got a bad cold at the moment too. The coughing even did something. To my abdomen and I was in complete agony one night. Ended up in triage, it was that bad.

Sad sorry you’re feeling so rubbish. I had this a couple of weeks ago - word of advice, make sure you keep hydrated! I second hot water, lemon and honey, as well as paracetamol. Not much else you can do really! Hope you feel better soon.

Baby cough syrup glycerol can soothe a sore throat and is safe to have

emwithme · 30/10/2018 08:18

You can sniff Olbas oil/use the "up your nostril" inhaler and Vicks vaporub too. (I have spent much of the last 6 weeks vaguely sticky and smelling of menthol!)

Got some vapour rub and kids cough syrup so will give them a try and pick up some honey and lemon. It's rare for me to not have any in the store cupboard Tbh... Had a steaming mug of black coffee which seemed to help a little bit and an airwaves chewing gum but it's not really helping just making my nose drip...

Just got some lemon and honey so going to have one when I get home and hopefully perk up a bit... Wish I hadn't given all my paracetamol away 😂

Saline nasal spray like Stérimar.

crackerslikejacobs · 30/10/2018 12:39

I have this too, on top of HG😩

Sitting with my lemon and honey now.

Fingers crossed you feel better soon xx

Reaa · 30/10/2018 12:41

I thought Lemsip was just honey, lemon and paracetamol?

ThanksItHasPockets · 30/10/2018 12:44

No, it contains decongestants which generally aren’t considered safe during pregnancy.

bumblebee39 · 30/10/2018 12:45

@Reaa it's got phenylalanine in it which is a decongestant and not allowed in pregnancy

@ThanksItHasPockets

I know your pain, I have HG too, even the honey and lemon made me queasy... Tea seems to be going down ok though... Yesterday it made me gag...

Another vote for honey and lemon. Had it loads when pregnant and ill with DS1.

I didn't think you were allowes vapour rub in pregnancy? If you are I'll be so annoyed haha as could have used it!!

emwithme · 30/10/2018 13:47

I checked with the pharmacist, Koala and it's OK in pregnancy but not breastfeeding (probably because of where you rub it!)

DH is joking he's going to use it for forthcoming nappy changes.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 30/10/2018 14:02

Good to know thanks.

Hahaha not the worst idea!!
