Hi all! So I'm currently 20 weeks with my second baby! First weighed 6.8oz at birth and because of this consultant wants to see me every 3 weeks to check the growth of baby.. can anyone give me a heads up of what this will consist of? Do they scan to check or how does it work? Thanks in advance

They scan the baby.

They measure the circumference of the baby's head, the circumference of the baby's abdomen and the length of its leg bone and make an estimation as to what the fetal weight is with this three figures.

They will track it on a percentile chart, like the baby has when they are born and make sure they are following the same line and not plunging through the percentiles.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you (20 weeks, DD was 6lb 8oz overdue) I'm going to be having growth scans starting at 26 weeks at either 2 week or 4 week intervals depending on growth at 26 week scan.

Ahh thank you @TheDayMyButtWentPsycho I wasn't sure on what to expect! Had my own mum at the 20 week scan with me so was thinking of asking my mother in law to come to one of these appointments! Don't want either feeling left out lol

They scan to check. I have to go every 2 weeks, where they check head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length. From these measurements, they calculate an estimated weight and plot it on a chart.

I’m now 33 weeks and have recently been told I now need twice weekly scans I’m addition to the fortnightly scans which measure the fluid level around baby and check the cord flow.

It’s nice to keep seeing the baby :)

@Bluebelltulip I was over due also 8 days over but I was quite young with my first he's 9 now! Was quite worried when they told me they would be keeping an eye! Just hoping all will be good! Do you know what your having?

@Stephisaur has everything been okay so far for you? Yeah the reassurance of seeing the baby will be nice! Just hoping everything ends up okay! Pregnancy is a constant worry! Wer you allowed to have somebody with you?

I was 8 days over too! My DD is 21 months and I haven't found out the sex. Did you? I think taking mil is a good idea.

babystripes · 29/10/2018 20:30

@Bluebelltulip that's funny both the same scenarios! Yeah I found out I'm expecting a little girl this time! We are all so excited! It's his mums first granddaughter too so thought it would be nice to involve her!

@babystripes yes everything has been ok so far. Had a bit of a weird one where he rocketed above the 90th centile one scan and had dropped back down afterwards (leading to the twice weekly scans!) They seem to think he’s at risk of IUGR but for now he seems to be growing nicely :)

DH usually comes with me to my scans, but my Mum has come to a couple too. Hope everything is ok with you and baby :) xx
