D&V bug

Hi all,

I have my 12 week scan on 5th November- 10+6 today.

However, I’m so worried about a missed miscarriage for a number of reasons. My anxiety is really affecting myself and my partner at the moment- it’s all I think about.

I had spotting at around 7-8 weeks, which my local EPU said was nothing to worry about.

I’ve had cramping on and off for the last couple of weeks in my stomach.

Two days ago I had a 24 hour sickness and dirahorrea bug, which left me very dehydrated as I couldn’t keep anything down, not even sips of water. Again, my EPU said that they couldn’t deal with this, told me to phone my GP, who said he didn’t want to see me unless it carried on for over 48 hours.

I’ve also lost some of my pregnancy symptoms in the last week- my boobs aren’t as sore, I’m not nauseous (apart from during the bug) and I’m not as tired as I used to be.

I’ve convinced myself I’ve had a missed miscarriage and don’t know what to do. Is it worth trying to get a private scan with 10 days to go until my 12 week scan?

Any words of advice or just reassurance?

Thank you.

I know it's not going to help...but try and stay calm. It is normal for symptoms to decrease or go around the time you are ( mine started to go at 8 weeks and were pretty much gone by 12) I was also very unwell when I was 7 weeks pregnant for over a week. I couldn't even get out of bed. The cramping is also very normal and doesn't need to mean anything bad. Your uterus is doing lots of stretching. I think only you can answer if it's worth a private scan...it really depends on how bad your anxiety is...I went to book one countless times when I was really struggling but held out in the end and everything was fine. If it's going to be 10 days of hell for you..then maybe you should get one to ease that worry. However...everything you describe sounds normal to me x

Thank you for replying. It’s reassuring to know that this all happened to you and it was OK. I think I’m panicking so much as I thought it would take us a long time to have a baby due to medical reasons so this baby seems like a bit of a miracle.

I think I’m going to avoid the private scan- just phoned my local Bupa and they no longer do early scans and I don’t trust any of the other local clinics as don’t know if the sonograhers are trained to NHS standards. I’m sure they’d be fine but I don’t think going to one of them would help my anxiety.

Hi, I've just had D&V and felt horrendous. I was worried about the baby but had my 12 week scan today and all was well. Google tells me your body is really good at protecting the baby and it's unlikely to cause any harm.

I also think symptoms can start easing off at 10/11 weeks. If you are really worried, maybe see if they can fit you in a bit earlier for your scan as I think measurements can be taken from 11+3 or 4.

@Seablueeyes, I’m sorry they haven’t taken you more seriously but spotting, cramps etc are fairly normal. I had them all with DD.

I’m 9 weeks today so a little bit behind you but I had a sickness bug nearly two weeks ago and as far as I know everything is ok.

I understand the limbo you’re going through and it really is hellish - I really feel for you.

Try to keep yourself busy over the next week or so until it’s time for your scan. Good luck.

If this helps, I had salmonella at 16 weeks and ended up on a drip for rehydration in hospital - I was so dehydrated I didn't know where I was and couldn't walk. Baby had a lovely strong heartbeat throughout my stay and the midwives all assured me he would be fine, it's me who was in trouble! Fast forward to 31 weeks now and he is perfect, growing well and strong.

I also had cramping throughout my pregnancy, and spotting can be erfectly normal, but always call your midwife or EPU if you need to, that's what they are there for.

Thank you all- your stories have reassured me slightly. Think I just need to keep busy until next Monday!
