Migraines and pregnant!

Hi,
I'm just after some advice? I am thirteen weeks pregnant and at least once a week I am getting an awful migraine that lasts a good couple of days. It means i am having to take time off work and can barely sit up without throwing up!!
It's awful, paracetamol doesn't help nor does a cold compress so was wondering if there is anything else I can do?
Is there any point contacting the midwife? Is she able to prescribe something to ease them?
They are starting to get me down and being confined to bed as my head feels like it's going to explode is affecting my day to day life.
Any help would be very much appreciated

I think that there are migraine medications you can take during pregnancy. Time to go to see your doctor! Fingers crossed they are appropriately sympathetic and helpful!

Go and see your GP! You can can sumatriptan in pregnancy as an emergency relief medication. I suffer from chronic migraine and was worried about the use of such drugs in pregnancy but I have it in writing from my neurologist that it is ok to take. Only other thing i can suggest is dark room and rest until it eases. Migraine is a terrible condition so sending hugs x

Oddly (opposite to a pp) I was told i absolutely couldn't take sumatriptan during pregnancy (if you can, great, those drugs are miracles!), because they work by dilating blood vessels. But I think there is stronger pain relief they can prescribe so definitely go and see your GP (your midwife is unlikely to be able to help). Hope they go away, migraines are awful x
Ps if you do get prescribed something especially sumatriptan which comes in small allowances, make sure you have the form that lets you get free prescriptions in pregnancy, I can't remember what it's called but your GP has to sign it I think
