Sorry if this has been done a million times but did a sweep work for you? i know everyone is obviously individual but am intrigued to know!

I had one during my second labour. It was a home birth and I’d been 2 cm dilated for a few hours although pains were getting more frequent and stronger. Half an hour after the totally painless sweep I was at 9.5cm and gave birth about an hour later. So for me it was a great success.

@loonoon - oh wow!! thank you for sharing that! I have a home birth planned and my sweep is taking place at 39 weeks so i'm not sure it'll have much impact if my body isn't yet ready but who knows. This is my first baby. Hopefully i have a similar success story to share!

I had a sweep on the Weds at 3pm and contractions started Friday (6am) with DS2 being born at 8.20pm that night. I was 39+2 when I had the sweep 👍🏻

I also had one during labour at 2cm, though it had already been 21 hours for me. It did seem to ramp up after that, but was still another 12 hours until mine rocked up. Also a home birth and home birth at 40+5, though went into labour at 40+4.

Mine was painless. Literally didn’t even feel it.

NakedMum33and3rd · 24/10/2018 14:00

I had a sweep at 40 weeks. DS was born 2 days later.

heidithebogey2 · 24/10/2018 14:04

I was induced at 38 weeks, was expecting a looooong labour. Took just 13hours from start to finish and I reckon part of the reason was having two sweeps in the week before induction as I could really feel the hormones start to kick in after both of them.

Unpleasant but didn't hurt.

Good luck for a quick, easy labour!

Birdie69 · 24/10/2018 14:07

I had one for my second labour. I was due on Christmas Day and hoping to deliver a few days early - doc gave me a sweep and I started contractions that night. Had a four hour labour and I had DS home for Christmas.

simbobs · 24/10/2018 14:10

It worked for me. I had a sweep at my 40wk appointment and really wanted to get going as I was huge and really didn't feel able to carry the bump around any longer. I gave birth the following day.

GMtoBe · 24/10/2018 14:14

I had 5 in the lead up to my induction at 40 weeks and they didn't make any difference, it still took 4 days of induction to get dd out. They got increasingly painful but I'd expect that considering they were all done within 9 days of each other. I think I had a particularly stubborn baby though who was just not ready to come out!

I had three the last one at 42 week. The first two they couldn't do and were absolute agony. The third one was painful and still didn't do anything 🤦‍♀️

Markygirl1995 · 24/10/2018 15:13

Had two Monday, first one was pathetic midwife was clearly to scared to hurt me. Second one was done at hospital gave her permission and she basically done it proper intense to the point I could have hit her but there's no gain without pain I'm fat 2 still losing my plug but no sign yet.. brought my induction early this Friday if he doesn't make an appearance as I'm 41 weeks today

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 24/10/2018 16:16

I had one on my due date, in the morning. I expected it to be a bit uncomfortable but it was excruciating, not sure if it was my midwife's technique or if my cervix wasn't favourable but I nearly hit the roof. Labour started that evening but I didn't give birth for another three days. The midwife who delivered DD said the sweep could have kickstarted me into slow labour before I was properly ready.

hiddeneverything · 24/10/2018 20:36

I had five with DS2. Not even a twinge.

Baby1onboard11 · 24/10/2018 20:59

Thank you all for sharing! On the whole, it seems it’s been positive for most people and best of luck to you @markygirl1995 and I’m scared of that exact situation potentially happening @ministerforcheekyfuckery
