Reduced movements?

I went in to the maternity assessment unit on Saturday night as I believed baby hadn’t been as active throughout the day, when she felt my stomach she was like ‘have you been scanned since your 20 week scan, or have any scans due’ I said yes I am getting growth scans as my DD was born under 10th centile, but am still wondering why she asked this?

At the end baby was moving fine, heart rate etc was all ok she said if I had anymore reduced movements then to come straight back and the doctor would bring forward my scan date, I have been getting period like pains nothing too serve but was told to take paracetmol if it bothered me

Now I’m sort of overthinking about movements, are these movements normal? What did she usually move like? feel like am just panicking about it as she is still moving but I feel like I am second guessing myself as the way she said it

When we got home I had so many questions I didn’t think of, any advice on why they would bring scan forward? I think I am just overthinking now as she did feel fine to send us home!

Some reassurance please!

If they thought something was up they'd be all over it.

Could you phone your community midwife and make an appointment to discuss your questions?

From what you said I think they're bringing the scan forward to both reassure you (as a change in movement is scary) and perhaps as a belt and braces approach to baby's care.

If you're worried go back in. No one will turn you away. It's a huge mental load looking after the health of a baby we can't even see, and they'd always rather see you and tell you everything is fine.

Was it your first episode of reduced movements? How many weeks are you? They scan at our hospital if we have had two or more episodes of reduced movements, to check placenta, etc.. so she could of just being enquiring about that.. hope all is ok, as to movements well only you can know what is normal but if your concerned then I would say defo get checked out, I know it can be a bit of a pain going to the hospital and waiting but it's better to be safe in the long run, I hope this helps x

It was my second but the first was early on at 24 weeks, I am 35+5 . Thank you baby has been very wiggly and moving as she should, I just keep panicking thinking is she moving enough! We have our growth scan next Friday so hopefully she carries on behaving until then! x
