Morning sickness and pregnancy vitamins

Hi guys. I’m 12 weeks just had first scan but really struggling with morning sickness. I eat half my food then throw it all up (tmi sorry). I can’t eat any pieces of food bigger than a 5p piece as it makes me gag. I’ve not taken the pregancy vitamins in about a fortnight because of it. Should I be worried?

I found the only pregnancy vitamin I could keep down was the seven seas trying for a baby. I tried several before I found on that didn't make me sick. 😢

I’m literally so worried baby is going to come out I’ll because I’ve not managed to have the vitamins. No one at doctors or pharmacy will give me an answer whether I should keep taking them or not either. I have to speak to doctor but can’t get in because of work 😿

I feel so sick. I am only 7 weeks but have only managed to swallow 1 lot. They are so big and the thought of swallowing it makes me feel even more sick.

Lilbear14 · 21/10/2018 19:47

I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to keep them down. I didn't take them with my two previous children and they are absolutely fine.

And tbh...I've forgot to take them a few times this time round too.

Pixie91 · 21/10/2018 19:47

Yeah defo. In an ideal world they would taste like smarties!

I got ordered some gummy fruit ones online which were much easier. Why on earth do they make massive horrible vitamin pills that are difficult to swallow for people who are already feeling sick?!? It makes me cross!

Babyno2mamabear · 21/10/2018 19:51

I can't take pregnancy vitamins they make me SO SO SO sick! Like 4 hours of sick after 1 supplement. I spoke to the midwife who said just take folic acid and vitamin d, I brought them separately in boots and they are both tiny! About the size of the contraceptive pill and much easier to swallow xx

Penguinsetpandas · 21/10/2018 19:52

I wouldn't worry about it - can you manage just the folic acid? I wouldn't worry though, just start taking them again once you've stopped being sick. If you are being sick it won't be doing much good either. I didn't discover I was pregnant with my second until 11 weeks so no pregnancy vitamins and he's fine. First daughter just took folic acid, again no issues.

I have a reminder set on my phone to take my vitamins at 6pm which is the time I feel least sick so I know I keep them down. I've managed well so far in "mind over matter", telling myself my baby needs the vitamins more than I need to be sick and I manage to do okay... I don't think I'd be that successful first thing in the morning, though.

I'm on Pregnacare at the moment but the Seven Seas are much much smaller. They're the size of a contraceptive pill and very easy to take.

Lilbear14 · 21/10/2018 20:02

I have seven seas and they're quite big. Just nearly threw mine back up as the thread reminded me to take today's.
I found that I have bad nausea after I take them and I will probably be up a few times in the night with it now.

I was exactly the same during my pregnancy. I initially took the pregnacare vitamins but they were huge- I've always been a wimp with taking tablets anyway which doesn't help. A friend suggested I tried the liquid form of the pregnacare vitamins which I did, took this well until my morning sickness kicked in at 6 weeks. My HV r3commended I just take folic acid and vitamin D which are tiny, I still bought them up as I had severe sickness- 10/15 times per day and was signed off sick. I still took them though out of guilt- I thought my baby was going to be ill if I didn't. By the time I got to 9 weeks I couldn't take it any more, even the sight of the vitamin bottle made me sick. Obviously I can't assure you that in not taking them, your baby will 100% definitely be fine, but I didn't take them from around 10 weeks and everything was perfect with my pregnancy. I spoke about this at length with my GP, who told me that if I was bringing up the vitamins it wasn't worth trying to take them in the first place as I was just bringing it up anyway. He advised me to keep trying to take vitamin D as my sickness got better but said our mother's and their mothers etc didn't take anything when they were pregnant and babies were born fine. My DD was born 7 weeks ago and it's absolutely perfect

I couldn't swallow tablets at all when I was pregnant, they made me vomit instantly. I used this instead -
