How many weeks before you first saw the midwife?

I'm 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. Saw the GP Friday and he said to book in in 3 weeks time with the midwife. The soonest appointment they have is when I'll be 10 1/2 weeks.
With my first two, 11 and 9 years ago you just booked straight with a midwife. And I saw them around 7-8 weeks.
I've requested the midwife give me a call tomorrow so I can discuss things with her. I was consultant led with my last 2 pregnancies and saw the consultant very early on too. I am anaemic and I have quite bad anxiety. I also had anti natal and post natal depression with my first child. I'm very nervous about waiting so long. Especially as I'll then have to wait several weeks for the scan.
What's the procedure where you are?

I had a brief appointment at about 9 weeks, then full booking, bloods etc. with my scan at 13+4.

katie23913 · 21/10/2018 13:17

I didn't see the midwife until 10 weeks and even then it was just her taking my medical history really and a blood test. Didn't then see them again until 16 weeks.

Around 10 & half weeks for the first midwife appointment. Scan was booked then and i had the scans around 12 & half weeks

10 weeks 10 years ago. I think 7-8 is unusual.

bubbles092 · 21/10/2018 13:22

I was around 7 weeks.

ellesbellesxxx · 21/10/2018 13:23

10 weeks (2 years ago) and had scan at 12+5 (although had already had a scan at 6+5) as was ivf.

TurquoiseWeekend · 21/10/2018 13:23

I was about 8 weeks.

coffeekittens · 21/10/2018 13:25

Here the midwives don’t do your booking in appointment until 10 weeks, then your scan is arranged from there. When I had my DD nearly 6 years ago it was the same.

bourbonbiccy · 21/10/2018 13:31

I first saw a midwife at 15weeks as didn't find out until 13 weeks. I had to ring the number for the local midwives , left a message and then they booked me in for my booking in appointment.

I had already attended my scan , as I was sent the same day due to the doctor thinking it was ectopic but could not be seen until the next morning so I seen our DS the day after I found out I was pregnant 😄😅

blackcat86 · 21/10/2018 13:31

I had my first appointment at 8 weeks where they took personal history for me and DH, blood, urine and blood pressure.

Seems to be 10-12 weeks here. I did see GP before midwife every time for health issues though (same issues, needed prescription). Might be worth making an appointment with yours specifically to discuss your anxiety or your anaemia.

spacefighter · 21/10/2018 13:37

8 weeks.

Notquiteagandt · 21/10/2018 13:43

10weeks. They wont see you before 8 weeks here. Id already been to the epu 3x so I guess they didnt see any need to see me sooner as id already been checked over there.

But 8-10 weeks around here seems the norm.

user1471426142 · 21/10/2018 14:44

8 weeks but I’d have thought 10 should be fine as long as you’re in the system for your 12 week scan or they can book it in quite quickly.

Angelmiracle · 21/10/2018 15:12

10 1/2 weeks is fine if it's for your Booking in appointment? Or is it just with a community midwife? I made an appointment at GP clinic at 5 weeks with the community midwife just to say hello really but it was pointless as she just took blood pressure and went over some basic advice. Then had booking in at 10+2 weeks and scan at 13+6.

thismeansnothing · 21/10/2018 15:13

With dd1 it was at 10weeks

This time around 7/8 weeks

SoyDora · 21/10/2018 15:48

10 weeks with my first 2, 9 weeks with this one but only because they thought I was further along than I was (late ovulation).
10 weeks is standard here.

Caprisunorange · 21/10/2018 15:51

You self refer here. I didn’t realise this as in my last pregnancy the gp did it. So I saw the GP at 7 weeks, self referred, the appointment letter could take 10 days so it’s like to be 10-11 weeks I think?

If you’re worried about AND wouldn’t it be the GP you need to see anyway? Hope all is ok

penny455 · 21/10/2018 16:28

Midwife is normally around 10 weeks

Greggers2017 · 21/10/2018 20:19

Thank you everybody you've put my mind at rest.
I think you're all right. I am going to book an appointment to speak to my GP tomorrow. I'm not bad with my anxiety at the minute but I don't want anti-natal depression to rear it's head. So gonna be cautiously

Pre-booking appt at 8 weeks (but not everywhere does this and tbh, it was a waste of time) and full 'booking in' appointment at 10 weeks so what you've described sounds normal.
