Terrible abdominal pain

Hi Lovely people,

I've been experiencing a terrible pain in my abdomen since i was about 5 weeks (currently 12+5weeks). It is constantly there but is usually a dull pain and manageable. However every few days the pain becomes excruciatingly sharp and can last for quite some time (a few hours) theres also no bleeding.

When it get's like this, i can't walk and just have to remain doubled over until it passes. I've been to A&E 3 times for other issues but always ask about this pain but keep being told it's normal. Today i saw a doctor who was not very helpful tbh and kept googling things to see if it was normal during pregnancy. Initially he said it was normal THEN after my friend reminded him that i have small (less than 2cm) fibroids, he decided that it could be that though a gynaecologist at my scan with EPU said they wouldn't be causing me pain. Eventually he gave me codeine.

Has anyone experienced pain like this before? And can you take codeine during pregnancy? I thought it was only paracetamol.

Thanks in advance lovelies

Have you had a scan yet or anything?

Oddly enough, the pain you describe seems similar when I have a BAD IBS flare up. I know a lot of people think IBS is just bloating/discomfort but I have been literally doubled over, unable to move and in so much pain.
I'm really lucky that so far it's not been too bad in pregnancy, but I have heard from some people that they have developed it badly in pregnancy.
(I was in so much pain at 8 weeks I was given as early scan and they could barely see baby due to my bowel spasming so much, although it has settled a lot since then).

I know the doctor said possible fibroids. But I just thought I'd throw that out there.

With my first pregnancy I had a similar problem. It turns out it was the iron in pregnacare vitamins. Are you taking any vits at the moment? I switched to another vitamin tab with a lot less iron and felt much better after a few days! Hope you're ok and get it sorted soon x

Fibroids usually grow in pregnancy, could this be the case? Mine grew to quite a size and caused pain when walking.

Fibroids can cause awful pain in pregnancy, I had this at 11 weeks and was told it wasn't usually until second trimester. Also it was diagnosed by scan so if the scan is clear that seems unlikely.

It's not round ligament pain is it? BecUse that's a bitch. I can't stand up straight when I get that. But it only lasts a minute.

Thanks for your responses ladies.

Yes, i had a scan with EPU when i was 7 weeks and they told me i had fibroids but that they "can't cause me any pain because they're small" (rolling my eyes doesn't quite cut it at this point). I'm on the pregnacare vitamins at the moment, it's interesting to hear about the iron being the issue; i've had issues with my body making enough iron since i was young. I hadn't even considered that, thanks @mumsolihull

Funny enough @DannyWallace i've had a massive problem with UTIs over the past 3yrs and would often get a lesser version of this pain in my bladder. I thought it may have had something to so with that again but the doctor didn't even bother to do a urine dip test.

I think i'll just go to my GP on Monday.
Thanks again ladies
