12 weeks and bleeding ...

Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what the outcome was ...

So basically, I'm 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant today. I'm not due my first scan for another couple of weeks.
At around midday I went to the loo and noticed a fair bit of red blood when I wiped, definitely more than 'spotting', but no clots or anything like that. It was there when I wiped again, but within an hour started to tail off into a small amount of brown bleeding. I called the EPU but got nowhere, so I decided to take myself down to a & e. Didn't get very far there either, they took some bloods, didn't say why or what they were testing for? Took my blood pressure and had a feel of my tummy. Didn't seem to have any huge concerns? Unfortunately I'd had such a long wait in a&e the scanning department had closed by the time the doctor saw me. So he made me an appointment for me to have a scan tommorow afternoon.

I'm still none the wiser as to whether or not baby's okay in there. I'll not know anything for definite until tommorow.

I guess the positives are I've not actually had any cramping, and the bleeding went from red to brown pretty quickly, and has gradually gotten lighter as the days gone on. It had pretty much stopped by tea time, only a bit of brown spotting when I wipe, nothing more.

The red blood that I had in the first instance has been the thing that has worried me. Plus I actually suffered a miscarriage earlier in the year, so I've been terrified it might happen again. Although I must say this is totally different than my previous miscarriage, with my previous miscarriage I bled heavily and cramped, plus it was much earlier in the pregnancy. So I'm feeling hopeful, I just don't want to be disappointed if it's not good news tommorow..

Anyone experienced similar? Was there a negative or positive outcome? If it's not a miscarriage what could be the reason for the bleeding?

It's going to be a very long night of worry for me ...

Hi!

I'm 22 weeks pregnant. I've had three bleeds in this pregnancy.
There's been no explanation given for any of those times because they couldn't find one.

It's frustrating to say the least.

Did they check your cervix at A&E?

Mumtobe193 · 17/10/2018 21:22

Hi @Pepper123123 they didn't check my cervix at a&e no.

How many weeks were you when you had bleeds? Was it brown or bright red? I can't imagine how worrying it must have been for you to have it happen 3 times! Hope all is going well for you.

I'm just so worried as I had no bleeding whatsoever whilst pregnant with DD, the only other time I've bled in pregnancy it resulted in a MC.

I've had bleeding at 5,7,12 & 17 weeks. Never found a reason for the bleeding and had 2 early scans I'm now nearly 36 weeks it's not always bad newsSmile sorry for your previous loss and best of luck for tomorrow! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Mumtobe193 · 17/10/2018 21:43

@lmj25 thankyou! Glad everything's worked out well for you. Not long left for you now!

I've been scouring the internet for answers and I must say I've came across more positive stories than negative ones. Feeling a little better about it now. But of course i won't be able to fully relax unlesss I see my baby safe and well tomorrow. Praying it's going to be okay 🤞

Thank you @Mumtobe193 Smile
I know what you mean I couldn't settle each time until I'd been scanned/checked and knew what was happening. Try to keep positive and get some restSmile

I had spotting at 10 weeks, a little red and then some brown with no cramping. I was abroad so wasn't able to visit my dr, but had my scan booked as soon as I came back anyway. Like you I had a really unpleasant miscarriage previously. All was fine and my daughter is now 18 months old

The dr said it was most likely old blood and assured me that it's quite common so try new t to worry too much (easier said than done)

Mumtobe193 · 17/10/2018 22:18

@bigballss it's good to hear another positive story, glad everything worked out well for you.

Im feeling a little more relaxed about the whole situation now, just scared to get my hopes up in case it's isn't the news I'm hoping for tommorow.

Anyone ever bled in pregnancy and been given an explanation for it? Or is it mostly just one of those things

@Mumtobe193 the first bleed was around 11 weeks. It was terrifying. Then I had one two weeks later and another a few days after that.

I was sent to emergency gynae. To be fair they were amazing. It's a shame they seem to be so blazé with you.

I'm 22 weeks now. Haven't had a bleed since around 14 weeks, so fingers crossed that was it. The last bleed was likely down to having a UTI though.

I didn't have any bleeds whatsoever with my first either, so I get why you're worrying, but please try not to think the worst. The gynae doctor told me that there are a lot of harmless reasons why we can bleed during pregnancy and the majority of cases of bleeding don't result in the worst.

Good luck for tomorrow. Let us know how it goes x

Mumtobe193 · 18/10/2018 01:11

@Pepper123123 hopefully thats the last you see of any bleeding! Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly. I can imagine it's probably been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for you having 3 instances of bleeding. I do hope all being well tommorow that this is just a one time event for me, I just couldn't deal with the worrry. I also found the hospital to be quite blasé in their attitude when I had my MC back in April too, I suppose they see it day in day out, and if you are indeed having a miscarriage there isn't really much they can do to prevent it. Although it is nice when you speak to somebody with a bit of compassion when you're feeling really anxious and upset, rather than somebody who seems keen to get you in and out. But still, I can't complain, they did seem really busy and overstretched, so I kinda get why I didn't get the answers I was looking for today.

Wish me luck for tommorow, hopefully all will be well, I'll keep you updated

Now there's just the issue of actually trying to get some sleep tonight, thanks for helping me feel a little less worried ladies x

Hope everything went ok today @Mumtobe193 x

Mumtobe193 · 18/10/2018 16:02

It went really well! Baby is safe and well, saw the heart beating, saw it moving its little arms around. So relieved! I was so nervous, walked into the room in tears but the lady who did the scan was so lovely. She even gave us a couple of pics. She couldn't find the source of the bleeding, just put it down to everything stretching. Thanks for all of your well wishes ladies xxx
