Early labour or paranoia

Hi All,

im 35 weeks pregnant with baby 2. I’ve recently been experiencing some changes that I wanted to get your opinions on as I dont know whether im in the early stages of something happening in the next week or 2 or if I’m being optimistic and paranoid. Win my first pregnancy I had or eclampsia so I never had these symptoms. I know the babys head is down as I’ve had a scan recently but I’ve been getting some pelvic pains, going to the toilet a lot even though not a lot of wee actually comes out and some lower backache. I’m sure it’s just baby moving down into position but I also noticed some mucus in my knickers when I went to loo. Sorry if TMI. Just need some reassurance as I was induced last time so knew labour was coming. Thanks

hmm not sure. They could be signs that body is getting ready of could just be symptoms of late stages of pregnancy. its so hard! im 35 weeks as well and having lots of back ache and braxton hicks, some with waves of period pain and some just uncomfortable. Its all just a guessing game. do you think you lost your plug? was there any blood?

I’m probably just being paranoid and maybe a bit optimistic as I’m getting really uncomfortable now. There was no blood in the mucus, it was clear and there wasn’t a lot there. I find myself checking every time I go to the loo for more but nothing noticed. I’ve been getting back pain for the past few weeks but it seems to be down one side.

Hope you're doing okay OP! Give you're labour unit a call of you're worried. It does sound like your body is getting ready. I had what your describing on and off for last few weeks of my pregnancy. Lost count how many times I lost my plug (it grows back though until your body is ready). I also found if I had sex or done a lot of walking etx then it would make it all worse too.

Also I ended up giving birth at 37 weeks (so literally just term). DS came out fully formed and totally healthy at a good weight of 7lbs 1 too!

Also, for some reassurance, my kid sister was born at 35 weeks. She was totally fine apart from her lungs needed bit more time to develop but it wasn't anything unusual and hospital were easily able to look after her, She was out of hospital just 2 weeks later all lovely perfect.

Good luck x

Most likely I'd say these symptoms are the result of the baby's head pushing down into your pelvis. The frequent wee is just from the pressure of the head on your bladder. The mucous might be some of your plug coming away, but that's really only a sign that your cervix is starting to open ( which happens earlier with your 2nd anyway). Call the hospital if you want to check, but I wouldn't be getting too excited yet.

Thanks for all your help. I know each pregnancy is different but this one has been completely different to my first. I think I had it too easy with my first haha!

It could be a UTI so I would get a sample checked out. Definitely ring your midwife if you have any concerns
